Introduction: Sewing a Frame With Silhouette Cameo

This is a really simple project you can do with the Silhouette Cameo that only involves drawing shapes.

Supplies:
  • Silhouette Cameo
  • Paper
  • Crochet Thread / Embroidery Floss / Thin Yarn
  • Yarn Needle / Cross Stitch Needle / Needle that will fit through the holes
  • If you don't have a Cameo, you can use a paper cutter and hole punch, but you won't be able to control how big the holes are.

Step 1: Designing

This is a really easy design.  I provided the silhouette file for those who don't want to do this.
  1. Start with a rectangle that is 4 inches by 6 inches. 
  2. Create a perfect circle (hold shift) that is .1 inch by .1 inch.
  3. Copy that circle and paste it.
  4. Line the second circle up right below the first.  I used the squares on the grid to line mine up.
  5. Keep copy and pasting all the circles you have and lining them up until you have filled the site.  If you put them in the center of the circles like I did and if you lined up your 4 by 6 rectangle, it will work out perfectly.  
  6. Since you have one full side, copy it and line it up on the other side.
  7. Copy it again and twist it 90 degrees and line it up on the top.
  8. Copy however many more circles you need and finish the top.
  9. Copy the top and put it on the bottom.
  10. So easy, right?
  11. Make sure all of your lines are cut lines by going into Cut Style and cutting all of the lines.

Step 2: Cutting

Load your paper into the Silhouette Cameo.

I used a fairly thin paper so I just used a blade depth of 2 for this project.  Now, just send your file to the Cameo and you are set.  

Step 3: Sewing

How you are ready to decorated your paper.  Take your string of choice and do a blanket stitch all the way around, doing two stitches in each corner.  When you finish, take both of the ends and tuck them in the back and tape them down.  Make sure the ends can't be seen through any of the holes.

After you are done, you can use it for whatever you want.  I showed how you can just use it as a nice way to display a picture.  You can put it in a frame, on a card, or in a scrapbook.  Or you can do some fancy matting and just put a simple phrase on it.  Whatever you want.
