Shock Mount for Blue Yeti USB Microphone From IKEA

A simple DIY shock mount for the Blue Yeti USB microphone. If you use it with the included stand on your desk. It can pick up a lot of unnecessary vibrations and noise. This shock mount is made for less than $2 and with parts from a dollar store and IKEA. Since it's so small and compact, you won't even notice it.

Step 1: Get IKEA EKIPERA and Hair Ties

The first step is to get the items. The EKIPERA is a 5" (13cm) utensil tray that can be found at IKEA. It's slightly larger than the base of the Blue Yeti micophone.

Step 2: Test Fit

Take 4 elastic hair ties or rubber bands and test fit it around the tray. Use a sharpie to mark off where you will need to make notches or grooves for the elastics.

Step 3: Grooves

Use a soldering iron to melt a notch into edges of the tray. This will prevent the elastics from slipping off.

Step 4: Complete

After making the notches or grooves, put on the elastics and that's pretty much it. Place your Blue Yeti on the shock mount and make sure it's not bottoming out or touching the sides.

It should lower the noise transferred from your table by about 20db's.
