Intro: Simple Copper Cuff

I've been making a lot of bracelets this week and experimenting with different metals as well :) this Instructable is for a very simple copper cuff, but can be made with any metal.

STEP 1: BoM

Metal bracelet blanks

Nylon mallet/hammer

Rolling Pin

Sand paper

metal snips

STEP 2: Snip & Sand

Snip the edges of the bracelet blank to make them rounder. Sand the edges to prevent cuts.

STEP 3: Shape

Place the blank onto the rolling pin, making sure to center it. Use your thumb to bend each end of the blank around the rolling pin. Use your mallet to shape the rest of the bracelet.

STEP 4: Hammer

Continue hammering the bracelet on the mallet to harden it. This way the bracelet won't be quite so easy to bend or dent. You don't need to hammer hard and don't do it for too long or you risk the metal becoming brittle.

Comments

To soften copper which has become brittle from hammering (or bending on and off over time), just heat it up with a torch, or in a 300F oven for about 15 minutes. When it cools, it's all nice and soft again!
