Simple Eraser Stamps

Using only a simple and cheap rubber eraser, a pencil and a craft knife, you can create this wonderfully easy stamp for next to nothing.

There isn't much to say about the main story behind these, so I'll get right on into the Instructable, though I imagine you've probably figured out all of the step by now.

Step 1: What You Need

There are very few things you need here, but let's list them anyway!

• Rubber/eraser of any size. (The bigger, the better)
• Craft knife or any small sharp knife
• Ink pad or appropriate marker pens.

NOTE:  Instead of an ink pad I used marker pens due to the wide variety of colours I had available. The pens that I tested and were successful included: Sharpies, Letraset Promarkers, Poscas (paint pens). Though Im sure any kind of paint pen or a marker that has a nice quality ink inside should work.

Step 2: Create Your Design

My design featured a simple 'M' with an exclamation mark afterwards (My name is Matthew) and a star. This was an easy design to create as all the letters/shapes were symmetrical. The important note I'm trying to make here is that remember when you stamp, it will stamp backwards. AKA. Don't make the mistake I did in the second picture as it printed out as !PM backwards.

If you have a more complicated design you could always use tracing paper to print it onto the rubber.

Step 3: Cut Out Your Design

There isn't much to say on this step and I only manged to get 1 good picture but as you can imagine its fairly basic.

Using your craft knife, slowly behind to carve away at the eraser around the shape you want stamping. Once it is all done and complete, you should have something that look a little bit like the picture.

Step 4: Ink and Stamp!

With your eraser stamp cut and finished, simply add the ink/paint and stamp away! Once you have completed the print use tissue to wipe off an excess ink or paint.

MANY many years ago when I was still young and fun but not old enough to get into bars and night clubs, we used this idea to get in. I had my older sister's ID and I'd go in the club. After a few minutes I'd "forget" something in the car and ask the door man to stamp my hand so I could get back in. Once out, I'd join my friends in the parking lot and using an exacto knife and eraser, carve the stamp (usually a word they changed nightly) and, picking a color from a bag of markers (the colors changed nightly) I'd stamp all my friends' hands. Then we'd all go in, up to ten of us, but not all together. We saved a lot of money on club entrance fees ;-)
