Introduction: Simple Filter for Sorting Lego Bricks and Pieces

About: industrial designer, maker, mom.

Sort Lego pieces by size easily through sifting

Supplies

-Sorting Bins (I used Ikea Trofast bins)

-Corrogated Cardboard and cardstock

-Ruler

-Exacto knife

-Cricut (optional)

Step 1: Cut Filters

The Trofast bins have an oval lid. I traced this and cut it out of cardboard. THen I cut 1" squares randomly all over it. This is my "Medium" filter.

For the "Tiny" filter, I used my Cricut to cut .5" x .5" squares out of 3 sheets of cardstock, then stacked them and glued them for strength. I'm using the smallest Trofast bins for sorting. Files are below:

Step 2: Shake N Sort

Scoop Legos on top of the filter, and shake until all the Tiny pieces fall through. Then, slide the excess pieces to the medium filter and shake! Anything that doesn't fall through the medium filter goes into the "Big" bin. In a matter of minutes, Legos will have been sorted by size. We store ours this way.
