Intro: Simple Mob Farm

In this Instructable, I will show you how to build a simple, starter mob farm.

STEP 1: First Farm

Start by making a 26 high block pillar

STEP 2: Channels

Make a cross with 7 blocks on each arm.

STEP 3: Levels

Add the secondary spawn levels

STEP 4: Spawning

Add the primary spawn level,the water and the signs.

STEP 5: Walls

Add the foundations for the walls.

STEP 6: Building Higher

Add the second level to the walls. Make sure they look like the ones in the photo.

STEP 7: Taking Cover

Add the roof and you are done!

Hey, I’m not sure this would work, but I feel like this might save a few lives:
Instead of making a tower, try building the mob farm at ground level out of dirt blocks (much easier to get with a shovel). Don’t bother making the tower section. Instead, dig the 4x4 pit in the ground, and make it 26 blocks deep. Place some hoppers and chests at the bottom. Then you can tunnel down and make a small room where you can collect items from chests.

Not sure if this would affect spawns or anything. Is there a specific reason it has to be an elevated platform?

Tip: Build this on a mountain.
Pros:
Easier to build, because cheaper materials
Harder to die from fall damage
Less blocks needed.
Cons:
Might spawn less, since it’s untested.

Some advice gathered from comments:

Place torches outside and on top of the tower.
Try staying or mining somewhat close to the tower, so the mob spawn frequency is increased. Just build it somewhat close to your base.

Also never dig straight down.

if not working: check the lighting levels inside, if too bright it will not work. Torches cannot be inside or it will not work, also too keep mobs from spawning on the roof of it place torches or slabs (I personally prefer slabs depending on the look). You only really need four signs in by the water assuming there are only two streams per direction since the hole will be 2x2, etc

Im doing this in hardcore mode and a zombie villager spawned while i was adding the finishing touches, a mob has not spawned since. im playing the newest snapshot so maybe they nerfed it?

I did this and a zombie villager spawned outside and fell in my lab right in front of me... XD

No but making it at 24-25 is more optimized because mobs spawn better. 26 is insta kill though

when I go up to my tower and check if there are mobs there are no mobs even tho its completely dark. can you help me??

Do you stand close to the tower?
If you do DONT, because mobs wont spawn if you are near them
If not then sorry i couldn't help you

mine won't work, i built it out of cobblestone and i am not standing right by it but it won't spawn mobs.
