Introduction: Simple Rustic Maple Slab Bench

About: I am a teacher who enjoys environmentally responsible woodworking. Most evenings will find me in the shop working with my now 8 year old son Shay who is both my greatest helper and biggest fan.
This was a requested piece by a store we have commission stuff in.  I got a call from them saying people keep looking at my tables and asking about benches in the same style.  Well shoot, you ask and I deliver.

The maple is lumber we cut from a massive blowdown tree and as you can see from the back, I used about as much of the timber as I could.  The barn wood frame and legs are built from timber salvaged from torn down buildings.  Even the pocket screws used to hold the base to the seat slab are recycled from other stuff I tore apart.  Call it being cheap or call it being green, I suppose it is all perspective.
