If you're a wood working hobbiest you might be faced with the same problem as me; a growing collection of tools but no where to put them, as well as an itch for a project that isn't too daunting. Well, this is the project for you!

Today I will be going through step by step how I made my toolbox. It's beginner friendly, uses minimal supplies and best of all minimal time!

Saw (Hand/Mitre)
Drill
Measuring tape/ Ruler
Pencil for marking
Sandpaper (80 - 180 Grit)

Wood planks (Any you like)
18mm Wooden Dowel
Wood Screws (50mm)

Step 1: Design

I made a simple plan of my design and made note of the measurements as seen in the image above.

Step 2: Cutting to Size

Next I measured out my wood planks and dowel and marked where to cut with a pencil. After that I cut all my wood to size, it's important that you pay attention for accuracy sake and to keep all your fingers!

Step 3: Sanding

For a nice smooth finish I sanded down each peace of wood, generally I start with 80 grit paper to remove surface imperfections and work my way up to 180. This also makes assembling easier as it will ensure any uneven edges are flat and straight.

Step 4: Assembling Time; the Box

Once all the planks are prepared it's time to mark with a pencil where you want your screws to go. I made sure to mark where each would go on my design plan so it was just a matter of copying where each should go on the real thing. When every screw is marked it's time to bust of the drill!

Carefully drill holes where you have marked for the screws, this will stop the wood from splitting, then swap your drill to the screw driver bit and pop a screw in each hole. You should end up with a rectangular box like mine in the image above.

Step 5: Assembling Time; the Handle

The final step is to add the handle. Double check that it fits perfectly, if not sand it until it is able to friction fit (sit by itself) between both ends. Mark two more holes with a pencil that will go through the centre of the dowel and the end of the box then drill and screw you rod and your all done!
