Intro: Simple Wood Airplane

This is a step by step guide to construct a simple wood airplane

STEP 1: This Are the Materials and Tools You Will Need

MATERIALS

- 1 Wood stick (for the main body and wheels)
- 2 smaller wood stick ( to connect  all parts ) 
- 3 tongue depressors ( for the wings and flaps )

TOOLS

- wood saw
- rasps
- wood glue
- varnish

STEP 2: The Main Body and Flaps

1- for the main body  cut the big wood stick ( 6 inches ) 

2- mark and cut it the size of the tongue depressor 

3- split the tongue depressor in two and put it in place with glue, use the rasps to shape it as you like

4- make a small hole in the "nose" of the body to put a 1/2 inch of the small wood stick  ( to attach the propeller later )

STEP 3: Wheels, Propeller and the Nose

WHEELS

1-  cut 2 pieces from the big wood stick with 1 inch

2-  prepare 3 equal pieces from the small wood stick  about 2 inches each  

3- glue the wheels and the 3 sticks together 

PROPELLER 

1- cut 3 inches of the tongue depressor, shape it with the rasp and make a hole in the center 

AIRPLANE NOSE

1- for the nose of the airplane cut a piece of the big wood stick with about 2 inches, shape it with the rasp and make a hole in the center 

STEP 4: Wings

1- cut the small wood stick with 2 inches long 

2- glue the to pieces of the wood stick to the tongue depressors ( you must use 4 pushpins to secure them in place while the glue dries)

STEP 5: Assembling It All Together

By now you should have something like the picture below 

1- mount the propeller and the nose together 

2- glue the wings to the main body using a pushpin 

3- glue the wheels to the main body

STEP 6: Last Retouching and Varnishing

1- with everything  glued in place use the wood rasp to smooth the edges and imperfections

2- apply a good coat of varnish and let it dry

STEP 7: Done

and voilá ! its done !!
