Introduction: Single (para)Cord Heart Pendant
Using a single piece of less than 3 ft of paracord you can make a heart shaped pendat necklace for Valentines day.
Step 1: Step 1
Fold the cord in half forming a bight.
Step 2: Step 2
Taking the right hand cord, make a counter-clockwise (CC) loop and lay the working end over the left cord parallel to each other.
Step 3: Step 3
Still working with the same cord, form another bight and tuck it behind the orig. left cord and through the CC loop from step 2.
Step 4: Step 4
Firm up the knot (which btw is ABoK #1133 labeled as a double noose... such a cruel irony for Valentine's Day) by pulling on each loop then taking out a bit of slack from the loose ends below. I placed a Qtr for scale. Pic should match yours so far.
Step 5: Step 5
Make another bight from the right hand cord and tuck around the back and through opposite loop on the left continuing through to the other side (going through both loops with the bight).
Step 6: Step 6
Make sure bight is through both loops.
Step 7: Step 7
Take up the slack.
Step 8: Step 8
Taking now the left cord, bight and tuck UNDER the first bight around and towards the back.....
Step 9: Step 9
..... Bringing the bight around and OVER the other cord/bight part.
Step 10: Step 10
To snug up the shape begin by pulling bottom right part (pictured at bottom of heart)
Step 11: Step 11
Phase 2 of taking up slack....
Step 12: Step 12
Turn peice over with the larger side of the heart now on the right.
Step 13: Step 13
And repeat steps 10 - 12 to tighten opposite side.
Step 14: Step 14
Like so.....
Step 15: Step 15
Pull both bights through like so, leaving the lines coming out horizontally.
Step 16: Step 16
Take left cord (coming from behind) and follow (above) the cord in front so both are coming out the right side.
Step 17: Step 17
Turn piece over so that both are now on the left
Step 18: Step 18
Taking the lower of the 2 cords repeat the same procedure as in steps 15 and 16. Cords should be horizontal as in pic of step 15 (only now with the double wrap inside).
Step 19: Step 19
Add a hitch to one side
Step 20: Step 21
Tighten.
Step 21: Step 21
Turn over and repeat same hitch.
Step 22: Step 22
Add whichever bend you choose to close it. I like double fishermans knot because its adjustable but any knot will do. Last thing to do is give it to a loved one.

Infinity or eternal knot

I saw comment a comment here about leaving one knot open for safety but I resolved it by cutting the cord, taking out a bit of the inner cords on one of the cut ends and sticking the other cut end in there and then torching a bit and made it neat. That way if it gets caught somewhere the attached part will give and snap. Sorry if my explanation isn't really clear.

little more difficult than I thought but I did it!!!

Great idea! I would recommend, however, leaving one end of the fisherman's knot open. Paracord has a tensile strength of 550 lbs, unlike the usual break point of a few pounds of a typical necklace. It might be worth considering as a good safety measure in case the paracord necklace gets caught in something.

I've got a lot red paracord-this is going to be a great project to do as gifts for my wife, my daughters and granddaugters!

You can add single cord lanyard knots for a little extra like this too.

Love this necklace and love the step by step pictures. Just in time for valentines day. I am making these for my pre school class and chose to close with a square knot.

It's not paracord, per se, but most camping stores should have something similar. This 1.8mm tent guyline was the smallest cord I could quickly find at REI. If you have a local store, you should be able to find some much cheaper.

Hi espdp2,
That's just it, the rope I found at REI was too thick for what I need it (zipper pulls) and when you try to pass it through the eyelets of the zipper pull is almost impossible, any ideas?
Thanks!

I'm working on making a zipper pull from some 28 ga. hookup wire.
