Introduction: Sleepy Cat and Chicks

I have always wanted to create something out of rice and so I thought ¨why not try it today with my favorite animal¨. It felt a little plain to just have the cat sleeping under an egg blanket, so I decided to make him some little deviled egg chick friends.

I used many ingredients you can find right in your kitchen. This recepie will give you a very cute and fun food to eat or serve!

Supplies

~ Deviled egg chicks ~

  1. 5 eggs
  2. 3 tablespoons mayonnaise
  3. 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  4. cheddar cheese
  5. food coloring
  6. 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
  7. bowl
  8. spoon
  9. pot
  10. optional: container

~ Rice cat ~

  1. 1/2 cup rice
  2. 1 cup water
  3. food coloring
  4. rice vinegar
  5. pot
  6. spoon
  7. paintbrush
  8. optional: container

~ Omelet blanket ~

  1. 2 eggs
  2. 3 tablespoons of milk or water
  3. cheddar cheese
  4. paprika, oregano, onion and garlic powder, salt, pepper
  5. pan
  6. spatula
  7. teaspoon
  8. tablespoon

Step 1: Boil the Eggs

Get your eggs, pot, and water ready.

Get your pot of water 2/3 full or high enough that the eggs are covered. Put stove on high heat and start boiling water.

Take your 4 eggs, I would recommend making 2 extra ones with the 4 as I did, just in case there are mess ups.

So take your 6 eggs and put them in a the pot of water. Let the eggs sit for 16 minutes.

Prepare a cold water bath or a plastic container for them to sit in when they are done.

When the timer goes off let them sit in the water until cool.

Step 2: Cook the Rice

Get your 1/2 rice, teaspoon salt, 1 cup of water, and pot ready.

Add the rice immediately into the water after washing the rice in a strainer. Add salt to your taste, I added a teaspoon.

Start boiling the water on high heat.

Wait 15 minutes or until all water is evaporated.

Once it is done put it into a bowl or plastic container to let cool.

When cool enough add a splash of rice vinegar to create sticky rice to mold the cat with.

Step 3: Fry the Omelet Blanket

Grab your bowl, pan, spatula, 2 eggs, 3 tablespoons milk/water, spices, butter, and cheddar cheese.

Take your bowl and break the two eggs into it.

Mix together with 3 tablespoons of milk or water, along with your choice amount of added cheddar cheese ripped into small pieces. Cheese does not need to be included if you are not a cheese person!

Add spices as you please, I used paprika, oregano, and garlic and onion powder.

Add butter to the pan and heat on high heat, when hot enough add the omelet mix into the pan and turn it onto low and cook for 50 seconds, then flip and cook the other side.

If its not cooked to your liking you can cook for longer.

Step 4: Put Rice on Plate and Shape Cat

During those 14 minutes take the time to start creating the sleeping cat.

Take the sticky rice, form a ball on a plate for the body and cover it with the egg blanket.

Then create another rice ball for the head and lay the egg a little onto the head to make it look natural.

And finally using either rice or cheddar cheese to form ears for the cat. I used rice and created one of the ears.

I added a second ear in the last step because I realized it would look more symmetrical and natural, so you can add that second ear that should be leaning on the plate now! You can edit the cat as you go along!

Step 5: Create the Deviled Eggs Mix and Prepare for Decorating

Grab your bowl, spoon, already boiled eggs, piping bag, 3 tablespoons mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar, pepper, 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard, and salt to get ready to cook.

After letting the boiled eggs cool you can start making the deviled eggs.

Peel the cooked eggs and slice the tops off of the egg whites, then take out the yolk and put them into a bowl. Trying to keep the egg whites in good condition to be able to pipe the mixture you make into it later.

Take the bowl of yolks and mash them together with the mayonnaise, pepper, mustard, vinegar, and salt. Mix until smooth.

Then set out your boiled egg whites and put them upright against the cat.

Take the mixture and put it into the piping bag, then pipe a swirl into the bigger half of the boiled white egg, when piped into the egg whites you can put the top of each egg onto their respective bottom halves.

Step 6: Decorate the Components and Create Final Product

Now for the final step grab your paint brush, small knife or carving tool, food coloring, and cheddar cheese to decorate the final product.

Using any color food coloring with a paint brush you are going to create the eyes, a mouth, a strip down the head, and a nose of the cat.

And using that same food coloring create eyes for the chicks.

Grabbing the cheese you are going to carve out one beak for each egg, a tail for the cat, and 6 whiskers, 3 for each side of the cats face.

The whiskers are small long rectangles, and to match that the tail is a slightly thicker, long rectangle.

After putting everything together on the chickens and the cat you can take the eggs and set them up however you would like on the plate with the cat.

Then take some pictures and enjoy!
