Slingshot

Intro: Slingshot

This is a standard wooden slingshot. Mine Shot a good 50 feet pretty hard.

STEP 1: Supplies

Supplies you will need.
1. Y shaped branch
2. Duct tape
3. 2 thick rubber bands
4. 2 small rubber bands

STEP 2: Get a Branch

Go outside and cut off a Y shaped tree branch so that the two brances of the Y are about 3 to 4 inches apart, and that the whole thing 10 inches long.

STEP 3: Make the Shot Cradle

Now, get some duct tape and depending on the size of your branch make the shot cradle. Layer the piece multiple times. Then cut two slits in the side where your thick rubber bands will go. Look at the picture.

Next, loop the thick rubber bands in the slits. Put one whole rubber band in the slit half way and loop one end inside the other and pull. Look at the picture if you don't get it.

STEP 4: Tie It Up

Finally, put the cradle on the Y and we are almost done. Get the small rubber bands and loop them under the big ones and twist them both around the top. Sorry if that is confusing but it's hard to explain. Look at the (blurry, sorry) picture for some help. All this does is keep the big rubber bands and shot cradle from flying off, so there are many ways of doing this.

STEP 5: Finish It Up

And now your pretty much done. You can also put a duct tape, hockey tape, or leather grip on it.

like the one i made but the pouch was lether

It doesn't look like it can throw a rock very far. on account of the length of the rubber bands...
no, it does pretty well, those rubber bands I used are pretty thick.
any ideas for ammo?
This is a really neat project. I liked it alot and I will make it look really cool. Thanks for the guide. But I do have a down side it took a long time to cut the stick into about the right size. Does anyone suggest something for next time. Thanks again for the guide.
I just used stick cuters and i cut it down to size in 30 sec.
Well a chainsaw would be faster. hahaha. No, other than that I can't really think of anything else. I just used a hacksaw and it a matter of finding a even branch.
I just leave the forks alone.Just make sure you have ample room for your projectile to pass the forks..
i used a bench grinder to even out the top of the"Y"
the shot cradle is a pouch
I found another 'ible which suggested cutting notches near the top and using Plastic zip ties to attach the elastic bands. I'll post a link if i find it
what if there's moss/algae on it?
I have an idea, to make the slingshot extra durable, you could get a PLANK and cut into shape.
i can never find a stick any other idea for the frame?
where can i find surgical tubing other than online?
Try surgical rehab centers or someone who has gone thru rehab for rotocuff surgery.. I have also found the tubes at garage sales from the door handle or foot stretch kits for excersise.. Try the SA or Goodwill or Church sales.. "good things come to those who enjoy the hunt."
Dude this is tacky some hints for u next time use surgical tubing its far better than rubber bands and on mine i have a tennis racket grip on the handle feels way better u can also buy sling shot pouches but great Y stick man its sweet
buy some slingshot bands instead of using rubber bands they are much more powerful and will shoot farther than a football field
