Introduction: Slow Cooker Baked Potatoes
As I said before, I was raised in Idaho (Born in Oregon, raised in Idaho, live in Utah, keep moving further south and east.) I recently discovered that you can “bake” potatoes in a slow cooker. They aren’t really baked any more than potatoes wrapped in foil are baked (they are steamed, because the foil holds the moisture in thus steaming them, sorry I just had to vent). Yet, it you need some “baked” potatoes to travel this is the way to go. Let’s get started.
Step 1:
Supplies:
A slow cooker (crock pot)
Washed potatoes (as many as you need)
Shortening or butter
Paring knife

Step 2:
After you have washed and dried the potatoes, pick one up and look for flaws.
Step 3:
Use the paring knife to remove the flaws, (if you don’t want to eat this, remove it). Repeat with each potato.
Step 4:
With clean hands, cover the each potato with shortening.
Step 5:
Put them in the slow cooker.
Step 6:
Plug the slow cooker into an outlet and turn it on low.
Cook for 8 hours.

Step 7:
When done, remove a potato from the slow cooker and prepare with the toppings you like best on a baked potato. Enjoy.

Have you tried out sweet potatoes yet (for those people who tend to swing toward the Paleo)?
