Introduction: Small Wooden Book Shelf
This is a small vertical book shelf. Size is very small. To be exact its height is 22.5cm, width is 27cm at base where as 18 cm at vertical structures & depth is 5.5cm.
When the small and big competition is announced, I thought why not to go for small book shelf? This idea triggered & started searching material. Most of the wooden pieces were available with me as leftover from other wooden projects. So in a way this project is reuse/recycle project in wood work to make a small book shelf.
Supplies
- Wood pieces. (Seven 18x3x1.5 cm, six 3x1.5x1 cm, one 27x3x1.5 cm, one 27x4x1.5cm, one 20.5x3x1.5 cm)

Step 1: Making 7 Wooden Pieces OF Size 18x3x1.5 Cm
- Take 7 pieces of pine wood of size 18x3x1.5 cm as shown in first photograph.
- Finish all 6 sides using polish paper.
- Finishing in progress.
- Finished wooden piece.
Step 2: Converting Wooden Pieces in to Vertical Shelfs.
- Take three pieces as shown in first photograph
- Join them using hammer & nails as shown in second photograph
- Make two vertical structures as shown in third photograph.
Step 3: Joining Base, Top & Middle Structure
- Take a piece of pine wood of size 18x3x1.5 cm fix it as top of the small book shelf.
- Take polished wooden piece of 27x3x1.5 cm & fix them as base of small book shelf.
- Take two polished wooden piece of 4x4 cm & fix one at bottom & one at top of two vertical structures using feviquick (As shown in third photograph)
- Fix one more piece of size 27x4x1.5cm at the base so that 1cm space will be created for sliding stick doors.
Step 4: Making Compartments in Shelves.
- Measure a piece of size 3x1.5x1 cm as shown in first photograph.
- Make 6 small pieces of 3x1.5x1 cm using small hack saw to make compartments in vertical book shelf.
- Fix these 6 pieces at equidistance as shown in third photograph.
Step 5: Making Doors of Shelf Using Kulfi Sticks
- Take 6+6 =12 kulfi sticks.
- Sharpen sticks using cutter.
- Take bigger 20 cm long stick make small hole on it, pierce sharpen stick in a hole.
- For additional support use pin & fixed sticks as shown in third photograph. Make sure the right location of 6 sticks each so that it will cover two vertical structures. To keep 6 sticks together pierce two pins from both sides.
- Cut extra length of the sticks so that they come to same height. Use hack saw for this.
Step 6: Install Door for Small Book Shelf
- To create a slot of 1cm take a wooden piece of size 20.5x3x1.5 cm & fix with nails as shown in photograph one.
- Fit a door made with help of kulfi sticks as shown in photograph two. This is door open position.
- Slide door towards right side to make it door close position as shown in photograph three.
Step 7: Finishing the Small Book Shelf
- Use polish paper or file to round the corners & edges of book shelf.
- Apply polish or Danish oil to create protective layer & attractive look.
Step 8: Preparing Book Holder in Compartment of Book Shelf
- Create 6 pieces of book holder in compartment of book shelf. This will prevent books from falling.
- Cut small wooden pieces of size 30x10x2mm as show in photograph.
- Fix these 6 pieces as shown in 3rd photograph.
Step 9: Applying Polish to Book Shelf
Apply protective polish to book shelf. This will add beauty as well as protection to the book shelf.
Step 10: Adding Books in Book Shelf
- Adding Books in shelf
- Book shelf with kulfi sticks door closed.
Step 11: Design Name Tag to Book Shelf
- Design name tag to book shelf using Tinkercad free login.
- 3D Print .stl File of name tag.
Step 12: Apply Colors to the Books
Apply colors using color pastels &/or sketch pen. Small book shelf with various colors of books is ready in above photograph.
Step 13: Add 3D Printed Name Tag to Book Shelf
Finally small book shelf with 3D printed name tag & kulfi stick doors is ready.
