Introduction: Smoke Generator,Single & Multi Barrel Mortar System.

About: Like my Pyrotechnics,Warhammer + 40k (Gaming,Painting,Conversions,building terrain),Paracord,Free Energy Projects,Electronics,Woodwork,Cardboard,Metalwork, Welding,Microcontrollers,AVR,PIC etc. Favour using 10…
Many tools and parts needed for this one, lots of Hot glue sticks,Thick cardboard,Box cutter,Glue gun,Scissors,PVC Pipe 3+lengths of,cable ties,green/dark paint, wires, bat, and a detonator to connect it to and set it off which is and will be created in another instructable and linked here. push button switch, battery pack for power,Aluminum cans and Foil for inner bottom heat shield.

(Currently Only the single barrel version has been tested and only with a small smoke charge. will test 3 barrel at a later date)

Step 1: Construction of the Housings and Bases.

First off  collect alot of thick corrugated cardboard and your boxcutter for in a short time.cut the PVC Pipe into equal sizes and lengths desired, for the barrels/barrel,and use cable ties to link them together securely these will stay there permanently so cut off any excess plastic.

Next cut out a square bigger then then 3barrels and draw around them carefully with a pen,cut out the outlined part x2 with two piece of card and hot glue them securely with lots of glue, next the bottom part again draw around it and cut out holes in the center of each of the 3 barrel placements, for wires much later in the construction, see pictures.

Fix your barrels in place no glue yet just so you know where they are and the angle you desire them at,mine at a very slight angle for firework mines etc, take a spirit level and make sure its level or at whatever angle you desire it at.

Form corners and sides from thick card, and apply braces to connect box to the part that holds the barrels in place, continue to layer and glue card around it leaving an large opening on the rear side, side with one barrel not two, this for access and electronics placement plus maybe weights to keep it steady now glue the barrels in the permanent place with much glue, once done,i painted it in a thick layer of paint multiple times, then repeated this process with the single barrel version make a box paint it until it the same as the other, now
You will need glue gun and some glue,a push button switch, some wire and optional crocodile clips for the ends, plus some paint for when its done.

Step 2: Finishing Off the Housing.

Once dry finish them off with a couple of thin layers of dark paint, and wait to dry, make small sections of foil and or cut tin cans, will use both, and cut smaller holes in these for the wires to protrude this will act as the heat shielding and add protection tot he wires and bottom of the barrel even though no substantial heat should be reaching here,as the internal smoke/mortar/firework will be self contained already, inside its own tube.

Step 3: The Wiring and Connections & Heat Shielding Parts.

Now the wiring:Pretty simple really get 6 equal but different color wires red&black etc,and cable tie them, link them all together if you want all barrels to fire at once and attach to a battery pack as shown,or link said wires far away and separately so can set off one 2 or all barrels, using my button press detonator set off with a single push, attached to an e-match and ether smoke propellant or a firework mortar in its own housing.
See pictures (only single barrel version at the moment)

Check when you push the wires down into the barrel the aluminum shields go with it as pictured.
Now add a battery and switch,i use a detonator made in another instructable, but you could just use a switch of whatever kind on its own, connect a battery multimeter tester to the wires inside the barrel where the E-match will go and press the switch to see if it registers and you got power.

Now once that done create and collect some materials fireworks, smoke mix etc and make small cylinders of thick foil to contain it,and help to not melt or warp the plastic,so more the better if not a case made from a drinks can that will fit inside carrying said firework etc.

Step 4: Testing Videos an Pictures.

At the moment only the single barrel version operational, and is multiple use capable after a small test worked fine.

See video, half assed this test as did not take into account the 12 ft+ of wire creating a small delay between me pressing the detonator and it going off,and only managed to catch half of the ignition still see it worked nicely.

In the aftermath and effects checked the barrel etc for damage, none even a few bits of propellant at the bottom did not burn through the foil&drinks can aluminium heat shield however as you can see they did burn and warp, and will need replacing after a use or two, more extensive testing and a better video required to make better judgements, will at a later date and in daylight.
