Intro: S'mores 2.0

S'mores can be messy. Very messy. Trying to get a piece of a chocolate bar to melt enough to stay stuck to the graham cracker yet not be so melted that it drips chocolate everywhere is a fine art. Luckily, with a little forethought and preparation, you can make s'mores simple to assemble.

This instructable is a s'mores mod. You are going to pre-chocolatize the graham crackers so all that is required for ooey, gooey smores goodness is to melt that marshmallow. Marshmallows can be toasted over a barbeque or other heat source but can alternately be melted in the microwave. Keep a bag of these chocolated grahams around for a quick comfort food fix any time.

STEP 1: Getting It Together

You need:
One sleeve of graham crackers
1/2 cup chocolate chips
one spoon
one butter knife
one small bowl
one shallow pan or plate

STEP 2: Preparing the Graham Crackers

Snap the graham crackers in half on the score line. If the graham crackers refuse to break neatly, score them a little with the knife before splitting them.

STEP 3: Chocolate!

Pour chocolate chips into a bowl and microwave 40 seconds. Stir. If the chocolate has not completely melted, microwave again for 10 seconds and then stir, repeating until it is all melted.

STEP 4: Spread the Chocolate

Spread melted chocolate on HALF of the graham cracker squares. Lay squares onto the pan.

STEP 5: Cooling the Chocolate

Place the pan in the freezer or refrigerator and chill until the chocolate has solidified. This only takes a few minutes.

STEP 6: Storage

Stack the chocolatized grahams in pairs with the non-chocolatized graham cracker squares. Store in zip top bags. Store them in a cool place until you are ready for s'mores.

Now you can make s'mores any time!

STEP 7: Assembly

When you are ready for a s'more, simply toast your marshmallow however you see fit and squish between a pair of graham cracker halves. Consume!

This is a great way..
But I have one change..
I have in the past used Stale Marshmallow PEEPS instead of plain Marshmallows. This brings a whole new flavor to the mix..
Good idea. We usually just use chocolate digestives. But they're not the same as graham crackers
Dip graham crackers in hardening chocolate. Works great!
Great idea, I'm also going to do this for our upcoming camping trip. In addition to less mess, I can also see how this cuts down on preparation time (it takes a surprisingly long time (when you're 5 years old)for a chunk of chocolate to melt under a marshmallow), but will also cut down on stuff I have to pack (take out the graham cracker box and the chocolate bars). Thank you! (sorry if this is a double post, instructables.com crashed on me when I clicked "post")
I suggest Nutella, it's much easier. You shouldn't roast your marshmallows under a candle. If I remember correctly it's kinda toxic. Your marshmallow would turn half black when roasting under a candle. NO it's not the marshmallow burning. It's really difficult to explain but end of story just don't use candles, it's not good.
Err its due to incomplete combustion of the candle wax burning, its not getting enough oxygen so more carbon is produced that it would be used in CO2. Thats carbon on the marshmallow.
I (kind of) quote from periodicvideos.com "The smoke from a candle is not actually 'Smoke,' as the regualr CO2, but it is very small wax particles floating about. If you light the smoke on fire above a candle, the flame will 'Drop' and light the candle again." I dont think wax is good for you, but i guess a few wont hurt...
Nutella is chocolate and hazelnut, I dont think that would taste too good on a smore I remember i first had nutella in france (before it came to the US) and brought some home with us.
What would you do with the Nutella? S'mores are traditionally just chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallows so that's all I've included. If it's like peanut butter, it's more viscous than chocolate at the same temperature making it messier. But this Instructable isn't about the how to deal with the marshmallow or added ingredients -- it's about The preparation of graham crackers and chocolate to ease the making of s'mores. I don't discuss the proper method of toasting a marshmallow which is, of course, radiant heat. There's just a photo of a marshmallow next to a lit candle in the area where I tell people to melt their marshmallow according to their own liking to show the option of using a flame. A plain candle is no more than wood. The danger is in using an open flame. You can use a microwave if you don't mind the marshmallow only melting, and not toasting. Thanks for visiting my Instructable!

Yikes! Did canida just ask you to stop commenting on anything??
No, just to keep comments constructive.
Yea i pretty much pooped myself when i read that :P
You are making me HUNGRY! They look so good.
Just made some. Yummy!
why not just buy chocolate covered graham crackers and save time. or what i do is use keebler fudge stripped cookies.
I don't use them because they have chocolate on both sides and mashing a hot marshmallow between two of them is particularly messy. Some people, like me, prefer to "do it themselves" and save a few bucks. Thanks for visiting.
