Introduction: Snowflake Ornament, 3D Printable.
In the spirit of winter, here is a 3D-printable snowflake ornament that you can either print at home (if you have a reprap-style printer or a Form 1 Printer) or print through a service like Shapeways. The 3d file is free to download as well.
I've always been mesmerized with the symmetry and natural beauty of snowflakes. With this ornament, I wanted to capture the six-fold symmetry of a real ice crystal. Every year I hope to add more designs to my collection of 3d-printable snowflakes - every new snowflake will be completely different from the one before.
Step 1: 3D Printing Via Shapeways.
If you don't have a 3D printer, but would like to enjoy this ornament, you can get one from shapeways.com. Just follow this link, and you'll be able to choose the ornament in a range of decorative materials:
Step 2: 3D Printing on Your Own!
If you do have a printer or access to one, you can download the attached .stl file to print yourself. This print should turn out really nice using the Formlabs Form1 or other resin-based printers that can print in clear plastic.
