Introduction: Soft Leather Glasses Carry Case

First Instructables!

A leather glasses as a Christmas present for my father. He was travelling on a coach and he lost his glasses on the way. So to prevent that from happening again, I decided to give him a thing so that when he’s sleeping when travelling, he wouldn't lose his glasses again.

Supplies

  • Thin Leather, ~1.2-1.4 mm. You'll need 1 ~ A4 size for the main body, and another for the attachments
  • Leather Supplies
  • Leather Glue
  • Cutter
  • Awl / stitching iron
  • Wax thread and sewing needle
  • Ruler
  • Burnishing cream
  • beeswax
  • edge paint and edge paint roller (optional)
  • buttons (1 set)

Step 1: Cut Out Template

Print out the template and cut it out using some harder paper / card.

Step 2: Transfer Onto Your Leather Pieces and Cut It Out

I used an awl to scratch the edges onto the flesh of the leather. If you have think enough paper you can just directly cut using the template

After the Main body piece has been cut out, cut the main body template into 2 using the horizontal line for the pocket piece (or print out two of the main bodies)

Step 3: Prepare the Back of the Leather

Use some burnishing cream (e.g. Tokonole) for all leather pieces

  • Put some on
  • Spread and remove excess
  • let rest (without letting dry)
  • Rub it in
  • Let Dry

Step 4: Glue the Main Pieces Together

Mark out 1 CM in from the Front of the main body leather (this is already indicated with the dotted border on the template)

Scratch and roughen the surface using a blade

Apply leather glue

Align and let dry

Step 5: Attachment Points

Take the string loop piece, and glue the top 1cm into the back of the middle section marked out by dotted lines

Glue the top and bottom 1cm of the d ring loop into the bottom centre of the Loop piece (with the D ring already in the middle)

Step 6: Attach Attachment Point

Glue the attachment points onto the front of the main piece (the side with a flap)

Mark out the stitching holes

sew

Step 7: Add Button

I did mine laster but now's a good time to add your button for the top flap

Also advisable to add a piece of thin leather to cover the back of the button so it doesn't scratch the lens of the glasses

Step 8: Main Body Stitching

  1. Fold and glue the two sides
  2. Once dried straighten up the edges
  3. Mark out stitching holes
  4. Punch out stitching holes
  5. Sew

Step 9: Finishing

  1. Burnish the edges using burnihisng cream
  2. Put some on
  3. Spread and remove excess
  4. let rest (without letting dry)
  5. Rub it in
  6. Let Dry
  7. Edge Paint (optional)
  8. Apply a thin layer
  9. sand and remove high spots
  10. Repeat until a gloss finish
  11. Protection
  12. Apply and buff Beeswax

Step 10: Add String to String Loop

Find (or make) a piece of string, thread it through the string loop, then on both ends of the string tie a knot around the string

Step 11: Done!
