Introduction: Soldering Helping Hand From Pipe Cleaners and Clothespins

How to make a helping hand to hold your soldering from simple craft materials.

Supplies

  • pipe cleaners
  • clay sculpting wire
  • clothespins
  • cardboard
  • hot glue gun
  • pennies (optional)

Step 1: Wrap Wire

Start by taking your pipe cleaners, and wrap around the sculpting wire. Wrap until you can no longer see any of the wire. You can use one color or two like I did.

Step 2: Clothespin

To add the clothespins, simply wrap the pipe cleaners around them and use hot glue to secure them in place.

Step 3: Repeat 1 and 2

Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have as many arms as you need. Mine just has 2 but you can add as many as you want.

Step 4: Base

The last step is to cut out two circles from cardboard about 2.5 inches in diameter. Using the glue gun, glue the arms onto one piece of cardboard and use the other piece to sandwich the arms between the cardboard. You can also glue some pennies on to weigh the whole thing down so it is more stable. The project is now finished! You can position the arms in any way to hold your wires when you are soldering.
