Step 1: Cut to Size
So as always first job was to cut it down to size, i cut it pretty close to where the design was but i wanted a thin border to highlight it as well.
Step 2: Shape
Next was onto shaping, i just followed the natural curve of the piece being careful not to lose control and saw through the design.
Next i ripped it to size, i took about a 1/4 off the thickness as i didnt want to risk making i t to thin and fragile.
Step 3: Sand & Drill
A whole lot of sanding.
I sanded from 120, 240, 320, 500, and finished at 1,200 grit.
Then drilled 2.5mm holes in the top to attach to the cord.
Step 4: Cord
I used a 2mm thick , natural leather cord , i was asked to cut the cord over-sized so the customer could cut it to exact size later, so i made the overall length 30" .
I used some super glue to attach the 2 ends of the cord into the pendant, i know people always use contact cement with leather but ive done this in the past and this super glue has held on fine.
Step 5: Finish & Job Done
Onto finishing, i ended up putting about 6 thin coats of spray laquer on this as the customer wanted it really glossy.
So sanding at 1,200 grit between coats helped me keep it super smooth and get a nice glossy finish.
And thats it - Job Done.
I love it, the customer loved it and hopefully you guys do too.
I hope you enjoy!
