Introduction: Space Shuttle

Hi, my name is Maja Strauss and I am a junior at Mentor High School. For my 3D Design Technology class, we had to find a client and make them anything of their choosing. For my client, I chose my brother. He asked me to make him a space shuttle to keep on his work desk.

Supplies

  • Elegoo Mars 2 Pro resin printer
  • Water washable photopolymer resin

Step 1: Sketch

First, I sketched out a space shuttle lifting off, trying to get measurements of each component. I then showed my brother and teacher. After both approved, I began on Fusion 360.

Step 2: Building

I started with the external tank and two rocket boosters. To do this, I created the profile of each part and then revolved around their axis, changing the profile if necessary. Then, I made the orbiter by outlining an image of a space shuttle orbiter to get the main body and using the form tool to create the wings and fin on the back. Next, I made the base and fire by starting with a simple circle and extruding it up. For the fire, I found an image I liked, outlined it, and extruded to different widths. Lastly, I put them all together. (Photos in order)

Step 3: Printing

Finally, the STL file was put into Chitubox, turned into a .ctb, and printed.
