Speaker Box Design / Nautilus Shell

Introduction: Speaker Box Design / Nautilus Shell

About: Carpenter and Joiner

a while ago i drew this up in cad , it took a huge amount of time ,
its a speaker box in the shape of a nautilus shell ,

i played around with the design abit and was going to CNC 18mm MDF sheets , and restack the sheets back together with glue to form a nautilus shaped void in a solid rectangle block

the cad files are of the " external " shape , where the nautilus shape is seen from the out side

I once took a nautilus shell and placed a condenser microphone element at the center of the shell.(just dremmel a hole and glue it down). I thought it would make an extra good microphone. I glued it down with hot glue and it only took about 20 minutes to complete. However the sound was not good. The audio sounded hollow. Maybe it will work better making a speaker? It is amazing how nature produces this shape with so little effort isn't it?

its the way that the sound reflects off the inside's of the shell shape , its suppose to minimize the sound waves reflecting back to the back of the speaker ,
