Introduction: "Spear Gun" From a Mechanical Pencil

About: Unsatisfied discovery. I will always take pride in what I've discovered, but never let that pride hinder me from discovering better, further, deeper. I am a student, a maker, and a future biomedical engineer.

In this ible I will be showing you how to make gun with a trigger with a mechanical pencil and other office supplies. This design is one I came up with while I was bored out of my mind during class. I believe I have come up with it as I have never seen another like it. The goal of this project was to come up with a gun with simple materials and a working trigger.
Hope you enjoy, I would love to hear your questions, comments, concerns, and criticisms.

Step 1: Materials

For this project you will need:
1 mechanical pencil
Multiple rubber bands
1 paper clip
1 pencil grippy
1 broken rubber band
1 pair of scissors

Step 2: Take It Apart

Remove the cap from your mechanical pencil, push forward the bead in the front, and cut the small wire that attaches to this bead. After doing this you should be able to take apart your mechanical pencil. Put aside the cap and what you have cut and you should be left with only the body and the pipe with the eraser that held the lead. Cut the eraser piece in half.

Step 3: The Body

On the back of the mechanical pencil, notice that the clip on mine is broken, do the same to yours. Stretch the grippy over the clip.
On the front of the pencil get your broken rubber band and put the two ends on the sides, making sure they're in alignment with the clip, and wrap another rubber band around it keeping it in place.

Step 4: The Trigger

Take your paper clip and fold it in sort of a seven shape but with and extra length on the bottom. Slide this under the grippy and wrap the grippy in rubber bands, making the trigger as tight as possible in its place.

Step 5: Shooting

First put the second part of the pencil with the eraser into the back of the first part where the trigger is. To shoot pull the rubber band back on top of the eraser, insert some sort of projectile (I use pen cartridges), and pull your eraser piece until the groove gets caught on the trigger. Pull down the trigger to shoot.

Step 6: Have Fun!

You are now finished with your mechanical pencil "speargun" have fun and try not to kill anybody :)
