Introduction: Spirited Away Shikigami (Paper Birds) Window Sticker

Sometimes (very rarely fortunately) a bird gets spooked by a bigger bird and crashes into the window. To prevent this, it's common practice to put bird shapes on the windows so other birds can see them.

I wanted to stick to the anime (Studio Ghibli) inspired elements in my garden, so i decided to do the Shikigami instead.

If they can scare away a water dragon, they ought to work on small birds, right?

Supplies

  • self adhesive vinyl
  • vinyl cutter

Step 1: Paper Birds

The Shikigami are folded paper birds, controlled by Zeniba to protect her from Haku and to spy on Yubaba. If this doesn't make any sense to you, go watch Spirited Away. It's a masterpiece!

That said this project is quite simple. I took a screenshot from the movie and used it to match the proportions and constructed the shape in Illustrator.

Files attached so you don't have to do it yourself.

Next I cut as many as I could fit on my remaining piece of white vinyl. I will cut more soon. They look better in larger quantities in my opinion.

Then I cleaned the windows and stuck the Shikigami to it - that's all.
