Spoon Pendant

Introduction: Spoon Pendant

Spoon pendants are the best upcycled jewelry you can get! They look gorgeous and they really aren't that hard to make. If you look online, no one sells them as cheap or as pretty as you can make them at your own home! You can make so many different shapes, sizes, and colors to fit you taste or occasion.

Supplies:

What you will need:

  • Any type of metal spoon
  • Scrap wood
  • old t-shirt
  • mallet
  • dikes
  • pliers
  • glue
  • embellishments
  • small picture
  • shellac and paint brush(optional)

Step 1: Step 1

First, put the old t-shirt over the scrap wood. Then put you spoon over the shirt and overlap the spoon with the other side of the shirt. Holding the handle to steady the spoon, hit with the mallet . It will take a lot of hitting on both sides to make the spoon flat.

Step 2: Step 2

Take you dykes and clip off about 3/4 of the flattened spoon's handle. This can be hard if you are weak like me, but if needed you can use a Dremel to cut it.

Step 3: Step 3

Now, take your plyers and bend the handle backwards to make a loop for you chain to go through. It is helpful to use a vise to hold the spoon, but if you don't have one, muscles will work!

Step 4: Step 4

Now for the fun! Find a picture you like and cut it into an oval that is a bit smaller than your spoon. With your glue, apply a thin layer on the back of the picture and press it down firmly on the spoon. Make sure there are no air pockets. Once dry, take your embellishments(I am using plastic gem stones) and lay them out. Don't glue them on until you figure exactly how you want it. Once you find your perfect decoration assembly, glue them down and let it dry.

Step 5: Step 5

Now, if you want you can apply a couple coats of shellac with a paint brush. This isn't absolutely necessary, but I highly recommend it. The shellac makes it strong, shiny, and super beautiful. I buy mine at Hobby Lobby. Now you have your very own stylish spoon pendant!!
