Introduction: Squirrel Beanie

About: Mother of two small children. Create stuff is a nice way to get the stress of my shoulders

My little girl loves squirrels, and there is a lot of them in our new garden. :)

Since it is winter in Sweden and the temperature is below 0 degrees Celsius(32 degrees Farenheit) so a beanie is needed! I saw a cross stitch pattern for a squirrel that I modified a little, to make it a little smaller.

So this is a guide to a beanie for a kid with a head range at about 50 cm (3 1/2 years of age).

Step 1: Materials and Tools

Yarn for beanie, (50 grams)

Yarn for squirrel(brown/white/black) less then 50 grams each

Crochet hook size 3,5

Scissors

Needle for hiding the yarn ends

Pattern for squirrel (or other animal or so).

I added my squirrel in the instructable.

Note

For instruction on how to make magic ring, see youtube, I found this one that was really good: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLUaywX0-WE

Abbreviations

-Single crochet (sc)

-Crochet increase (inc) which mean-make 2 single crochet in same stitch

-Crochet decrease (dec) which mean-Crochet 2 stitches together

-Stitch (st)

* = Repeat stitches from * to end of *

-Chain (ch)

-Slip stitch (sl st)

Work in front loops only (flo)

Work in back loops only (blo)

Step 2: Start Crocheting

This is the pattern, my daughter is 3,5 years of age and her head is 50 cm in range.

Round1. Make magic ring and 6sc in ring (6)

Round2. 2sc in each st around (12)

Round3. *Sc in next st, 2sc in next st* and repeat from * around (18)

Round4. *Sc in next 2 st,2sc in next st* and repeat from * around (24)

Round5.* Sc in next 3 st,2sc in next st* and repeat from * around (30)

and so on until....

Round 15. * Sc in next 12 st,2sc in next st* and repeat from * around (78)

At this stage, I started to implement the squirrel, I have tried to take a lot of pictures, if you need help, there is a lot of useful guides on youtube. As you make the squirrel pattern you will continue with the increase as before until you have 6*17 = 102(Round 19).

Round 20 - Round 45. *Sc in next st* and repeat from * around.

Step 3: Finish

Use a needle to hide all yarn ends inside the beanie.

Done!
