Intro: Stained Glass Guitar

Hello, My Fellow Instructables this is my DIY Stained Glass Guitar it has LED lights and Strings this is mostly for decoration but I think you could play it. this project took me a long time to complete.

STEP 1:

The 1st thing to do is remove the strings then cut the Face of the guitar being careful so take your time

create a template, so you will have an idea where to place the glass pieces

Cut and grind all the glass pieces and place them on top of the Guitar face and arrange them in the order you like

make sure the glass is clean

cover each piece of glass all around the edge with copper tape

STEP 2:

Get the large piece of wood and place the template with the shape of the guitar on top, then get each piece of glass and wrap the lead strips around each piece " this is optional you could just solder the pieces together instead of using lead"

the lead will give the face some support also on the underside you could solder long pieces of brass tubing for support

for the strings, I had to improvise and use acrylic and drilled some holes for the strings, and glued a small piece along to act as a bridge.

Once the whole face is done is time to work on the body.

STEP 3:

cover the top edge with Lead makes it easier to attach the face to the body, install the LED lights along the walls of the body install the guitar stings then solder the top face to the body " take your time and make sure all is nice and centered " clean all and use the Patina if desired. Hope to see your creations

How did you attach the came to the guitar body nor how did you attach the finished stain glass panel with came to the guitar? Thank you
What did you use to cut out the guitar face.
Now to find a way to make a playable version.
I bet the glass would give it a unique sound.
Doesn't excist a playable version cause the glass is not a good assistant for the sound. Will absorb all the vibrations so the sound will be like muted...
I make vitreux glass as occupation for many years. Is an exceptional art. So from my experience i say that this is awesome but the quitar must be very heavy cause the glass pieces so its only for decoration purposes...thanks for sharing....
I thought about making one of these, as I've done stained glass before with light underneath, and I find the LED lights don't diffuse well under stained glass...so there are bright spots like Christmas lights under my work. So when I do mine, I'm going to use opaque glass and let the room's light make it look good rather than lighting from behind. You can also make a pattern instead of random shapes. You can make palm trees or birds or dragons on it, anything, which takes the guitar to the next level. You did a great job though. My only advice would be to find a way to diffuse the light if you use transparent glass.
this was the 1st stained glass guitar project it was on the go design
Great job, original idea and it came out really nice. great show piece.
dont think you can realy play it as it is build now , the spruce top is an important part of the structure , you can replace it with the stained glass but to prevent the neck from bending up against the strings tension you need to connect the tailstock where the strings feed trough to the neck with a solid piece of wood under the glass (look at les pauls first electric guitar called the log , the connecting piece can be a little less substantional but it does need to counter the strings tension , try putting a neck in place with the strings under some tension and you see the force the whole thing aplies to the body)
it is a verry nice piece to display though , i once made a wall clock from an acoustic body , the ticking of the clock mecanism was pretty loud though
thank you this is the 1st stained guitar project I don't play the guitar but maybe
on the next one
That's cool AF! Fantastic job!
