Introduction: Star Wars Leather Mask Wall Art
A really easy way to create something different to hang on your wall. I used a Boba Fett helmet for the shape but this would work for alot of different masks or helmets.
Step 1: Find a Suitable Shape to Mould
Items you'll need:
1. Some 6-7oz leather suitable for wet moulding. I used a veg tan belly.
2. A helmet or mask to mould your leather on.
3. Leather dyes and leather finish
4. A strong piece of cardboard or wood to mount the leather mask to the wall and some string.
5. A Pair of leather shears or strong scissors
First thing you need to do is find a helmet or mask shape you want for your wall art.
Step 2: Wet Mould the Leather
Cut your leather in a rough shape, big enough to cover whatever you're moulding. The edges don't have to be neat.
Wet your leather under the tap, and wipe off any excess water. Then mould the leather around the helmet to get the shape. The edges of the leather can be uneven and then scrunched up.
As the leather drys, it'll hold the shape but keep going back to it and shaping the leather.
Step 3: Dye Your Leather
Once the leather has completely dried you can dye it using whatever colours you like.
I use eco-flo dyes and they work well. Wait for each colour to dry before adding the next one.
Once your dyes have dried, apply a leather finish to seal and protect the leather. I used satin sheen for this mask.
Step 4: Add a Mount
I used a piece of cardboard and some leather strips to attach to the back of the mask and then hang on the wall.
Step 5: Hang on the Wall
Hang on the wall and enjoy!
