I made these for my son's 9th birthday. Though I can see them being used for just about any age since StarWars has captured so many generations. ..

Supplies:

Bright colored cardstock paper 8 1/2" x 11" (one sheet per invitation)
Silver/Gray colored cardstock paper 8 1/2" x 11" (one sheet per 4 invitations)
Black Cardstock (I used 3 sheets to make 24 invitations)
Paper towel rolls (cut in 1/2)
Red Buttons (one per invitation)
Black shinny Puff paint (one bottle)
Aluminum Foil Duct Tape (less then one roll)
Adhesive (I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry and black ZapDots by Helmar)

Step 1: Step 1

Print the Invitations:

Choose your invitation information to include:

For Whom the party is for
What the party is about
When the party will be held
Where the party will be held
RSVP info

Type it out so it fits nicely into a 1/4 sheet (4.25" x 5.5") of an 8 1/2" x 11", I used a StarWars type font. Cut all your Silver/Gray cardstock papers into 1/4 sheets and set your printer to print on a 4.25" x 5.5" piece of cardstock.

his name is (Insert Child's Name) and
he is strong with the force!

Adhere the invitation:

Place the gray invitation paper 1/2 " above the bottom of the paper towel roll. Adhere with a permanent tape runner or a strong double sided tape along the back side of the invitation before applying to the paper towel roll (cut in half). I had issues with this so I started using Helmar 450 Quick Dry, it worked great!

Making the blade:

Cut your bright colored cardstock into 6" x 11" pieces.

Add a strip of foil tape along the bottom 6" wide. Use a bone folder or smooth plastic scraper to get all the creases and air bubbles out of the tape after you adhere it to the cardstock paper.

Use Helmar 450 Quick Dry glue along one side and the bottom then adhere to the 1/2 rolls (with the invitations on them) by wrapping them around the exposed paper towel roll. Line them up with the top of the gray cardstock invite in Step 1.

Next take a few thin strips of black and thinner trips of

Next take a few thin strips of black cardstock (about 3/4" thick) and Strips of the silver foil tape (about 1/2" thick)

Center the foil tap down the middle of the black strips. Make these large enough to go around the top and bottom of the handle to create dimension. Use a foam pop dot or dimensional adhesive to separate it from the handle as seen in this image.

For the on button... use a red button and glue it on. Then, when dry add a drop of black puff paint in the center covering all the holes in the button and creating a nice 3D black button in the center of the red one.

I added black cardstock pieces in the back of the invitation to cover the seam... it looked like a grip. I used the puff paint there to give it a dimensional look and feel. See highlighted area in the second photo.
