Introduction: Steel Bar
Hello!
Welcome to my Instructable on welding a steel bar. I've been working on this project for a semester as a class project. This Instructable will focus on the skeleton of the bar. Here we go!
Step 1: Research and Drafting
First, I started by researching different bars and getting images that I liked. I decided that and L-Shape bar would be the most interesting and inviting in a home. After researching, I drafted the bar in Vectorworks. The picture above shows the dimensions of the bar.
Step 2: Cut List
Second, I created a cut list. This project required 24 1" Box Steel. Here is the list:
2 @ 5'-0"
2 @ 4'-10"
8 @ 3'-4"
8 @ 1'-4"
4 @ 1'-2"
Step 3: Practice!!
Once everything is cut, I suggest practicing the welding you will have to make. Here are some photos of the welds I practice making.
Step 4: Prep the Steel
After Practicing, you are now ready to start welding the bar. I used right angle clamps to make sure the steel will line up smooth and straight.
Step 5: Small Bar Assembling
I started with the small part of the bar. Building the two 1'-6 sections. Then welded the sides of the bottom and worked my way to the top.
Step 6: Big Bar Assembling
Once the small bar is done, you are ready to tackle the big one! I basically assembled this one the same way the small one was made.
Step 7: Result
And there you have it. The skeleton of a L-Shape bar! Thank you for reading and hope you come back!
