Creating a Stella octangular plant pot from plaster

Step 1: Drawing Mold Triangles

you will need a piece of paper, a pencil, a set square, and a compass as your materials

Step 2: Drawing the Baseline

Draw a 22.5 cm straight line from the right edge and at the bottom of the A4 paper and draw points on the line every 7.5 cm.

Step 3: Setting Up Compass

Taking the compass and the set square place the needlepoint on 0 cm and drag the pencil part out to 7.5 cm

Step 4: Drawing the Cross

Take the needlepoint of the compass and place it on the right corner of the line and draw a curve to the left.

Then move the needlepoint to the next point on the line and draw a curved line to the right creating a cross

Repeat this with the other points on the line

Step 5: Creating the Triangles

Put your pencil on the first point and place your set square against it and through the cross.

Now draw a line creating the first side to your triangle.

Repeat this with each point and cross on each side of it.

Step 6: Drawing the Top Line

Take the set square a place it next to the top of all triangles and draw a line to connect all of them together from the right edge of the paper.

Extend the line to the left by 7.5 cm and connect that corner with a straight line to the left corner of the bottom line making one more traingle.

Step 7: Drawing the Rest of the Triangles

Use the tips of these triangles as the new points and repeat these steps until you get 16 triangles.

Step 8: Cutting Out Mold Triangles

You will need a sheet of high impact polystyrene, glue, scissors, and the piece of paper with the drawn triangles.

Step 9: Gluing Your Drawn Triangle A4 Paper

Apply glue to your A4 paper with the drawn triangles and glue it next to the edge on the matte side of the high impact polystyrene

Step 10: Cutting the Triangles

Take your scissors and cut out each triangle having straight lines. Peel off the paper and put the triangles to the side.

Step 11: Drawing Core Triangles

You will need a new A4 paper, a set square, a pencil, and a compass.

Step 12: Drawing the Baseline

Draw a 20 cm straight line from the left edge and at the bottom of the A4 paper and draw points on the line every 10 cm

Step 13: Setting Up the Compass

Taking the compass and the set square again, place the needlepoint on 0 cm and drag the pencil part out to 10 cm

Step 14: Drawing the Cross

Take the needlepoint of the compass and place it on the right corner of the line and draw a curve to the left.

Then move the needlepoint to the next point on the line and draw a curved line to the right creating a cross

Repeat this with the other points on the line

Step 15: Creating the Triangles

Put your pencil on the first point and place your set square against it and through the cross.

Now draw a line creating the first side to your triangle.

Repeat this with each point and cross on each side of it.

Step 16: Drawing the Top Line

Take the set square a place it next to the top of all triangles and draw a line to connect them together from the left edge of the paper.

Extend the line to the left by 10 cm and connect that corner with a straight line to the left corner of the bottom line making one more triangle.

You should now end up with 4 triangles

Step 17: Cutting Out Core Triangles

Again you will need a sheet of high-impact polystyrene, glue, scissors, and the piece of paper with the drawn triangles.

Step 18: Gluing Your Drawn Triangle A4 Paper

Apply glue to your A4 paper with the drawn triangles and glue it next to the edge on the matte side of the high impact polystyrene

Step 19: Cutting the Triangles

Take your scissors and cut out each triangle having straight lines. Peel off the paper and put the 4 triangles to the side.

Step 20: Setting Up the Mold

You will now need your 16 mold high-impact polystyrene triangles and some sellotape

Step 21: Mold Base

Take 4 triangles and place them like this with the glossy side up. Tape each edge securely making sure no tape gets on the matte side

Step 22: Setting Up the Mold Corners

Now take 6 more triangles and tape each one tightly to the edge of one of the triangles from the base. Make sure you are taping the glossy side. It should like this.

Step 23: Setting Up the Mold Sides

Take 6 more triangles and tape each one to the inside edge of the corner triangle. You will end up having 2 side triangles between the corner triangles. It should look like this. Make sure the tape is well sealed on the glossy side.

Step 24: Taping the The Side Triangle

Take 2 side triangles and place the edges together and tape it securely making sure the glossy side is on the outside. Seal the rest of the edges together so there are no leakages

Repeat this with the other 4 side triangles

It should end up looking like this.

Step 25: Taping the Corner Triangles

Flip your mold around and take a pair of corner triangles and tape the edges together. Seal the edges carefully only placing the tape on the glossy side. Repeat this with the other 4 corner triangles.

The ending product should look like this with the big opening.

Step 26: Finishing Mold

Tape all the corners on the outside and make sure every single edge corner is sealed while having no tape on the inside. Set this aside

Step 27: Setting Up Core

You will now need the 4 core triangles and some sellotape

Step 28: Core Net Setup

Take all 4 triangles and place them face-up on the glossy side like this. Tape all the edges together tightly, making sure there are no bumps.

Step 29: Taping the Sides

Take any two side triangles and tape the edges together sealing them tightly. Make sure the tap is flattened down. It should look like this

Step 30: Closing the Core

Take the third triangle and tape the edges to the other two triangles sealing the core. Make sure the tape is all flattened down and the corners and sides are well covered with tape.

You should end up with a triangular pyramid shape like this

Step 31: Casting

Now you will need a bucket, a spatula, two yogurt cups, tap water, plaster powder, sellotape, your mold, and your core.

Step 32: Preparing Plaster

Add two yogurt cups of water into the bucket and then add two cups of plaster powder. You can increase the amount slowly to get the right consistency.

Step 33: Casting the Mould

Working with speed fill three-fourths of your mold with plaster and place your core in the center pushing it all the way down. Tape the core so it stays stable while the plaster dries.

Step 34: Drying the Plaster

Tape any corners or edges that have leaked and set your mold aside for 3 days to dry,

Step 35: Opening Product/mold

After 3 days you are ready to open your mold. You will need an Exacto knife. Slice open the edges of the corner and side triangles and squeeze the core out of the plaster.

Step 36: Finishing Product

File down the top/opening if there are any bumps. Drill a hole in the middle of the base and then your plant pot is complete.
