If you are a pet owner for feed birds outside, you get many bags that held pet food into your home every year. Many of these bags are quit sturdy, some with woven pattern of fibers. I have found it useful to make them into sturdy tote bags that I pass around to family members.

Supplies

(empty) Pet Food Bags

1/2" metal Grommets, with tools to install (Available at hardware stores or Harbor Freight)

~1/2" Rope (available in many colors at hardware stores)

Step 1: Cut Off Top and Fold Edge Over

Decide how much of the top of the bag to trim off and cut straight across with a box cutter or scissors.
Fold over about 1.5" of the top to the inside of the bag and finger press it all around.

Step 2: Install Grommets

Make marks about 4" to the left and right of the center of the bag and install grommets per the tool instructions.
That is, make holes through all layers (front and back) of the folded over bag tops with the hole punch. Then, use the anvil and top punch to sandwich the bag with the two grommet pieces. Should have four grommetted holes when done.
