Introduction: Sun of a Cock-A-Doodle Doo

Do you have trouble being late to class? Because we have the perfect solution!

Step 1: Introduction / Motivation

Have you ever feared missing an early class or not being able to wake up on time to study? Fear no more! Sun of a Cock-A-Doodle Doo has arrived! As an architectural student, pulling all-nighters is a must; so purchase Sun of a Cock-A-Doodle Doo to be awakened first thing in the morning as the sun goes up. This alarm clock will never fail as you will never need to worry about setting your alarm before you go to bed nor snoozing your alarm clock. The rooster on the alarm clock will rotate 360 degrees as it waits for the sun to come up and produce noise when the sunlight touches the photoresistor.

Step 5: Machine Making

Step 6: Programming

Step 7: Results and Reflection

Our original idea was about a positive and cheering companion that would clap every moment it heard a sound; for instance, either someone crying or someone laughing. In addition to clapping, it would produce a clapping sound that adds an extra cheerful feeling. However, we decided to approach this project differently by creating an alarm clock that will never fail in waking you up. We came up with this idea after we were testing the cheerful companion, which was based on the (sound sensor). Thus, we were interested more in learning and creating a machine that would focus more on the photoresistor rather than the (sound sensor). In addition, we could relate more with the alarm clock as we are architectural students and we often pull all-nighters.

If we had to do it all over again, we would not change anything. However, if we had the chance to upgrade this version of our alarm clock, we will include multiple options of the sound it can produce.

Step 8: References and Credits

The Sun of a Cock-A-Doodle Doo is a project part of a Useless Machine assignment for Physical Computing at the Daniels Faculty. This project was created and assembled by Michelle Liu, Eimy Ramirez Rugel and Melissa Zhang Zhang.
