Utensils:

Cake Pan, 9 x 13 inch

Spatula

Can opener

One Cup measuring cup

Sharp knife

Cutting Board

Hot Pads

Cooling Rack

Pancake turner

Oven

Timer

STEP 3: Dump the Cherry Pie Filling Into the Pan

Open the can of Cherry Pie Filling and dump the contents into the 9 by 13 baking pan.  Use the spatula to get every last sweet bit.

[ Preheat oven to 350ºF ]

STEP 4: Dump the Crushed Pineapple Into the Pan

Open the can of Crushed Pineapple and dump it into the pan.  Do NOT drain it, dump the entire contents including the juice into the pan. Use the spatula to get out every last drop. :-)

STEP 5: Mix Together

Take the spatula or a spoon and mix the cherry pie filling and crushed pineapple together in the baking pan until they are well mixed.  Made sure the mixture is evenly distributed and level in the baking pan.

STEP 6: Sprinkle on the Cake Mix

Carefully sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the cherry pineapple mixture in the baking pan.  Do NOT mix in.

Gently smooth and level the mix so it is evenly distributed over the surface of the mixture.  Made sure the cake mix meets the edge of the pan on all sides.

STEP 7: Top With Sliced Butter

Take the 1/4 pound stick of butter out of the refrigerator and use the sharp knife to slice it into thin pads, about 1/16 of an inch thick.

Layer the pads of butter evenly over the entire surface of the cake mix.  There will be gaps between the pads.

STEP 8: Sprinkle on 1 Cup Chopped Pecans

Take the sharp knife and chop up the pecans into a size to your liking.  Sprinkle 1 Cup of chopped Pecans evenly over the 'buttered' surface of the mixture.

STEP 9: Bake at 350ºF for 45 Minutes to 1 Hour

Place the pan of prepared mixture into the preheated oven and Bake at 350ºF for 45 minutes to one hour until top is golden brown.

STEP 10: Cool, Serve and Enjoy!

Use hot pads to remove the pan of Cherry Cobbler from the oven and onto a cooling rack.  Cool slightly.   Use the Pancake turner to cut out squares and serve warm.

Vanilla ice cream goes very well with this dessert.

Enjoy!

How many servings for this pan recipe, can you make in a sheet pan?

Being a 9"x13" pan you get about 12 pieces that are just a little over 3" square.

Even though the finished cobbler is fairly thin it starts out thicker than a sheet cake pan (jelly roll pan) and bakes down, so I don't think you could make it in a jelly roll pan, and have it turn out acceptably. You could experiment...

Thank you for posting the nut free option! Important to my family (allergies).

my sister in law used 2 sticks of melted butter and it turned out wonderful. so now i'm going to do just that

Nice alternate prep method. Did she just drizzle the melted butter over the cake mix? (Two sticks of butter instead of one - Double the yumminess)

is there anything I can substitute for pecans to make this nut free?

I would think that you could try it without the nuts just to see.

However, "The Crisis Cookbook" by Ann Peaslee and Carolyn Litlejohn suggests the following nut substitute: Baked oatmeal - Spread oatmeal evenly on a cookie sheet in a 400F oven for about 20 minutes, stirring several times during the process. When done you have a crunchy substitute that can used cup for cup instead of nuts. I have not tried this but is sounds like it would work.

Good Luck!

Step 7 talks about the butter, which is essential. And Step 9 talks about baking time and temperature. Make sure you are viewing all 10 steps. Sorry it did not turn out. Good luck on your next attempt, it is very much worth it!

Where does the butter come in and how long do you cook it? Mine sure didn't look like yours, mine was just a bunch of hot powdery cake mix on top of fruit stuck under the powder. FAIL! I surely missed something.

I love dump cake! I think I might need to make some this weekend with peaches and pineapple. :D
