Surprise Eggs!

Intro: Surprise Eggs!

An oldie but goodie: gifts in an egg. A REAL egg that you can crack. Because what's more fun than getting to crack through an egg before you get your gift? :)

What you'll need:
Eggs
Food coloring (or other form of dye if you choose to dye your eggs!)
An egg topper (I found a cheapo one from Crate and Barrel)
Mini cupcake papers
Hot glue gun
Teeny gifts/candy to fill your egg with!

1.) Using an egg topper (or if you wanna get really fancy, a dremel tool), cut open the bottom of an egg and empty out the contents. Either discard the insides of the eggs or make yourself a delicious egg dish. When using an egg topper, hold it against the eggshell firmly and give it a quick, sharp squeeze like you mean business. If you squeeze too slowly, it'll leave cracks in the egg. Repeat for however many eggs you want to make!
2.) Rinse out the eggshells with water, then sanitize them by putting them in a pot of water and bringing it to a boil. Let them simmer for about 10 minutes, then carefully remove them and let them dry.
3.) Dye your eggs! Or draw on them with a marker. Or keep them au natural if you want. The possibilities are endless. :)
4.) Fill your eggs with small gifts or candy.
5.) Using a hot glue gun, glue the base opening of the egg to a mini cupcake paper, then allow to dry. Keep the egg in an inverted position while you wait for the glue to dry.
6.) Give to a friend, and watch their delight as they crack open an egg to get to their gifts!

For some reason I really want to make tiny Spanish inquisitors to fit in these eggs.
Because, you know, no one would expect it.
