This is my first instructable I hope you find it helpful.

This is my take on a survival tracker knife. This knife will feature 2 hand grip positions, a draw/whittling blade, a mini axe like chopping surface, skinning hook, saw (optional), para cord handle, and lanyard.
Most importantly have fun and be safe :-}

Step 1: Materials Needed

Here are a few tools you'll need, I tried to stay as basic as possible (and will do so with any and all future instructables) to try and ensure just about anyone can make what I have.
1. Dremel (with cut off wheels and sanding bands)
2. A pair of vice grips
3. C-clamps (I have a 3" and 6")
4. Metal hand Saw
5. Flat bar hot rolled steel (I used 2"x48" and 1/8" thick cost me $11 dollars at a local hardware store)
6. Metal Files (I have a flat file and round needle file)
7. Wood board (to clamp onto for stability. I used a 1"x6")
8. Paracord
9. Masking tape
10. Power drill (with 1/8" masonry or cobalt bit)

Step 2: Make a Pattern

I drew a simple pattern on a piece of note book paper, then covered the section of metal I would be working with in masking tape. I then traced my pattern onto the tape

Step 3: Score the Metal

I don't have a picture for this step sorry but I will try and explain clearly.
Using the dremel with a cut of wheel trace the outline on the metal, and cut deep enough so that when you remove the tape you'll have no problem seeing it

Step 4: Cut Out Your Blank

now you'll want to clap the metal to your board and the board to your work table.
Take the dremel with your cut off wheel and cut the outline. Now to save me from using to many wheels I only went halfway through (plus the wheels will start to bind in the curves) the I used the saw to cut through the curves. then I used the vice grips to to bend and break the excess metal

Step 5: Clean Up the Blank

Here I used the files and dremel with emory sanding pads to remove the rough edges and even everything out (optional for the lanyard use a power drill with either a 1/8" cobalt bit or masonry bit with a slow speed and moderate pressure make the hole near the bottom of the handle use your needle file to widen and smooth the hole)

Step 6: Give It and Edge

sorry no picture for this step either. Use the dremel with the sanding bands and your flat file to grind down to and edge. this will be a bit tedious lol

Step 7: Almost Done! Make a Handle

This is the shape for the handle simplified. fold a loop towards the bladed end and wrap the cord from the bottom of the handle up. Once you get to the top with the loop lace the end of your cord through and pull the excess at the bottom hard to bring the loop and the end of the cord into the middle of the wrap. cut off the excess and done! (now if you drilled your hole take some cord and loop it through tie a not and there's your lanyard! )

Step 8: For Your Saw

I didn't make the saw so I don't have a picture here, but all you have to do is take the dremel with your cut off wheels and cut teeth on and angle towards the handle it's that easy :-}

Step 9: Finale

    I did go back and heat treat it but this was more about the blade than anything I figure heat treatment is a choice an could be it's own instructable also the steel I used isn't good for a knife anyway. thanks for your comment :-}

    Yes, HT on a good steel is what actually makes the difference between a real knife an a "prop".
    You can still use a non HT'ed knife, but with very poor and limited results.
    Give it a try, it's a leap forward

    yes I'd noticed that a blade without HT wouldn't hold an edge so it's become standard issue now thanks :-}
