Intro: Swedish Caramel Cookies / Knäckkakor

This is one of many Swedish cookies we eat for fika. I think they are my favorite ones. In this instructable I will show you step by step how to make these delicious cookies for the family.

STEP 1: Ingredients

This is what you will use:

*A bowl
*100 grams of butter
*0.7 cups of sugar
*1 tbsp of baking syrup
*0.7 cups of flour
*1 tbsp of vanilla powder
*1 tsp of baking powder
*Baking sheet
*Oven paper

STEP 2: Heat Oven

Put it on 350°F (175°C in the picture)

STEP 3: Butter

Bring 100 grams of butter into a bowl. Microwave it for a minute to melt it. Put it in the main bowl of use.

STEP 4: Sugar

Add 0.7 cups of sugar (1dl used in the picture) and whisk it around.

STEP 5: Syrup

Add 1 tablespoon of baking syrup (1msk used in the picture) and whisk that around too.

STEP 6: Flour

Add 0.7 cups of flour (1dl used in the picture).

STEP 7: Vanilla Powder

Add 1 tablespoon, tbsp of vanilla powder (1msk used in the picture).

STEP 8: Baking Powder

Add 1 teaspoon, tsp of baking powder (1tsk used in the picture).

STEP 9: Mix

Mix everything with a tree spoon so it forms to a dough. Add a little flour to make it more solid if necessary.

STEP 10: Dough

Put the dough on the table. Cut it into 4 parts. Knead the dough so it doesn't break apart.

Attention! This type of dough breaks apart very easily so be careful and knead it thoroughly with sturdy hands.

STEP 11: Formation

Roll out the dough in the hands and place it on the baking sheet. Be careful.

STEP 12: Press

Press the rolled dough with your fingers so it's formed flat. Do the same thing with the other 4 parts of dough. I ran out of space so I took another baking sheet.

STEP 13: Oven

Place it in the oven and let them be there for 10 minutes.

STEP 14: Take Them Out

When you take them out you have to be quick! Grab a knife and cut them sideways. The reason you have to be quick is that they stiffens, becomes solid quick. If you cut them when they are hard they will get damaged.

When you've cut them let them cool down and solidify for about 15 minutes.

STEP 15: Done!

And there you have it.

STEP 16: Bonus

Bonus art of the plate placement. This will surely make the kids drool! Lol

Are these the ones you get in IKEA!...you are a genius I have been looking out for the recipe since ages!

I don't really know. I usually never eat at IKEA. Good luck with the baking! :)

These look delicious and I know a lot of church ladies who will love them.Thank you.

For Americans, substituting 1/2 teaspoon of molasses and a squirt of vanilla extract for the traditional ingredients will yield similar flavor and color. 100 grams of butter is 7 tablespoons.

Thank you for mentioning this! I'm very grateful for your help. :)
Almost like Corn syrup, Golden syrup. Baking syrup is not so runny than pancake syrup and it withstands more heat. You can't use normal syrup as it doesn't get the same results. You can by it at IKEA if you live in U.S.A. Lyles Golden Syrup I think is its name.
Does your vanilla powder brand have sugar added to it?
Not regular sugar but powdered sugar.
