Introduction: TAPERED VICE JAWS FOR VIRTUALLY NO COST

Have you ever tried to put something tapered into your vice only to find that you can't get a secure grip?  I have and it is frustrating, so I designed and made a set of tapered vice jaws from scrap I had lying around the shop.  They work fantastic.

MATERIALS LIST:

2 - PIECES OF 1" ANGLE IRON CUT TO FIT YOUR VICE JAWS
1 - PIECE OF 1X4 WOOD PLANK, CUT TO 1" TO MATCH THE ANGLE IRON
4 - WOOD SCREWS

INSTRUCTIONS:

Start by cutting two piece of angle iron to match the jaws of your vice.  Drill two holes in each piece of angle iron as shown in the photos.  Now cut your piece of 1X1 " wood from corner to corner, leaving about 1/8" in from the edge.  This will produce two tapered wedges. Now you simply screw the wood wedges to the angle iron and you have tapered vice jaws for that frustrating tapered stock.
