On many occasions we require a small amplifier, but with a high enough power to set our room. Not to mention that our budget is not very high and neither is our knowledge in electronics. For this reason and among other reasons, here is a very economical stereo audio amplifier that delivers a power of 15 watts per channel.


This amplifier is ideal for small spaces and has also been tested in jukeboxes, obtaining acceptable results. Since the response of this amplifier is flat, you can equalize the sound from the VCR's computer software or from the player you use, be it a Tablet or an MP3 player.

Step 1: SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM

This stereo amplifier is ideal for beginners, due to its simplicity and low cost. It uses a pair of TDA2030 ICs. This is a class AB monolithic integrated circuit, which can provide up to 15W of output power, with a load of 8 Ohms.

The TDA2030 5-pin integrated circuit offers high output current and very low harmonic distortion. It also incorporates a short-circuit protection system, which automatically limits the dissipated power, to maintain the working point of the output transistors inside. This ensures its proper functioning. It also includes a conventional thermal shutdown system. all this without counting that it is very cheap and easy to get.

In the schematic diagram we can see that this is an amplifier in a non-inverting configuration. That is to say; that the signal enters through its non-inverting input or (+). This means that the audio signal that enters the amplifier will come out of it with the same polarization that it initially entered.

Step 2: FUNCTIONING

Now we will begin to assemble all the electronic components to later solder them to our professional PCB

Step 3: WELDING

Once all the electronic components are assembled, we will proceed to solder them with tin and our soldering iron at a temperature of 250 °C.

Step 4: HALF WAVE SOURCE

The TDA2030 is powered by a dual source or also known as a symmetrical source, for this reason and thinking about economy, the design of the power supply of this amplifier is a voltage doubler, which converts alternating current to direct, and also as its name indicates it, doubles it. This avoids having to get a transformer with a central TAP, just a simple transformer from 12 volts AC to 4 amps is enough to make it work perfectly.

In the previous diagram we can see that the transformer has one of its output terminals to ground and the other goes to a pair of diodes and a switch, which will be used to turn the amplifier on and off.

Since the current delivered by the transformer is alternating (AC), that is, it oscillates from positive to negative 60 times per second (60 Hz), we must separate the positive half-cycles from the negative half-cycles. This is done by the two 1N5403 diodes. These diodes are 3 amps and as we can see, one goes with its cathode towards the positive pole of a capacitor and the other is on the contrary, with its anode towards the negative pole of the other capacitor.

The positive half cycles will go to the capacitor above and thus a voltage of between 15 and 16 volts direct (DC) will come out, while the other diode will only pass the negative half cycles to the capacitor below, delivering a negative voltage of between –15 and –16 volts DC. Thus we obtain a symmetrical voltage from a simple transformer.
