Intro: Tang Survival Kit

I have seen a lot of survival kits on this site.  Most of them are all contained in a altoid tin.  I think that they are missing a few items that would make them more affective.  Anyways here is mine.  Let me know what you think or if I am missing something.

STEP 1: Things Needed:

I will explain what each one does.
Here is the list:
1- LED Flashlight
3'- 12 gauge stranded wire with sheathing removed
1- Simple knife
30' - String
1- Box of waterproof matches
1- Magnesium flint
3- Nuts
1- Bottle of Iodine tablets
5'- Duct tape
1- Platsic grocery bag
1- Ziplock baggy
1- 3'X3' sheet of tin foil
1- 1'X3' sheet of saran wrap
1- Ball type compass  (they're smaller than most and work better than most of the cheapys)
1- Large needle
1- Replacement sling shot strap
1- Condom
1- Hand sanitizing wipe (individual packet type)
1- Razor blade  ( I made a small cardboard sheath for it)
1- Emergency Blanket
1- 3'' piece of plastic tubing
1- Butane lighter
1- Smaller container containing cotton balls covered in petroleum jelly and dryer lint.
1- Small bag of char cloth  (not pictured)
1- Fishing kit (Contains: 2 mini bobbers, 2-20' folls of 8 lbs fishing line, 1- 20' roll of spider wire fishing line, and a assortment of small hooks.  They all are kept in a 35mm camera case).

STEP 2: Fire

The magnesium flint, lighter, water proof matches, char cloth, cotton balls/ lint are part of your fire making part of the kit.  I don't think I need to tell you what they do.

STEP 3: Hydration

The tang container, condom, Iodine tablets, plastic tube are hydration part of the kit.  The tang container can be used as a cup or bowl or both (top and bottom).  It can also haul water because the top screws on.  The condom is also a way to carry water.  It can hold up to a gallon of water for storage (this item if found on the internet).  The plastic tube can be used to drink water out of small puddles or even the condom! haha

STEP 4: Hunting/ Food

Wrist rocket strap, string, wire, fishing kit, nuts are the food/ hunting portion of the kit.  The strap can be attached to any Y-shaped stick to give you a decent weapon for hunting.  The wire can be unwound to make a whole bunch of snare wires or used to lash things together.  The string can be used the same way.  The nuts are just a couple of almonds I added to use as bait.  Probably don't need it but it is so small..why not.

STEP 5: Misc.

The remaining items are more miscellaneous:
Duct tape- can be used as a bandage, fixing thinks, etc.
Needle- can be used for fixing clothes, skin, etc.
LED flashlight-  I like the LED type because they are small, they don't draw a lot of power, and you cannot break the bulb!  I have also seen somebody make a fire with one!
Compass- Find your home!
Emergency Blanket- Keeping you warm
Grocery store bag/ ziplock bag- Holding water, items, many different things
Hand sanitation wipe- Cleansing hands, wounds, etc.
Tin foil- cooking things
Razor blade- conserve on knife blade, etc.
Saran wrap- bandages, collecting water, million of uses
Knife-  swiss army knife is what i have...has toothpick, tweezers, etc.

STEP 6: Done

That is it all put inside the container...

Thanks for lookin

a couple of big paper clips and about a dozen post-office rubber bands, linked and braided, make a good slingshot that doesn't weigh much. You also have, then, the paper clips you can unfold into wire or use as a handle for hot things, etc., and rubber bands to multi-purpose.

Dude, it's tiny!!!!
I agree with having some medical supplies. Super glue works like liquid skin, plus it has other uses too.
Don't forget a few basic medical supplies. In a survival situation, the smallest cut can get infected and get you killed. A little Liquid Skin and Alcohol Swabs and Bandages can go a long way.
add a real knife (swiss army's are better for taking apart stuff) like something from kershaw or gerber, etc. and paracord and use a metal container instead of the tang one (so you can put it over a fire)
This is just a survival kit for anytime, anywhere..You should already have a map but this kit is for when you lose your map! LOL It wouldn't hurt to put a extra map in the kit for the specific place you will be at.
i thought the whole kit was pretty thourough but i omly saw string and wire that can be used for tying stuff ect.. maybe add some paracord or some other thin but strong cord? liked the instructable though
Paracord would be a better option...thanks
One of the best kits I've seen. I really like that the container can double as a cup/bowl. I also wanted to add that the iodine tablets can be made into a past for cleansing wounds and such as well. Really neat kit, man.
Thanks for the comment...Nice idea with the iodine too!
Don't use the almonds for bait!!! Instead, you should eat them yourself providing that you are not alergic. They are high-protein and will give you a very solid energy boost.
I included a 3x3 sheet of saran wrap.  I put it under the misc. category, but it probably should have fallen under this section...
Add a clear plastic sheet (think window insulation or saran wrap) and you can make a solar still with a longer tube and the tang cup
its much better than most of the ones you see on the interweb
Thanks for the comment.  After looking back at my instructable I forgot the whistle and the sewing kit. Both of which fit in the kit, but some how I forgot in the pictures and step....oops
You may want to add someway to purify water and maybe some gum otherwise it seems like a good kit to carry
I included the iodine tablets for that.
sorry... I read the list 3x and still missed them..  its no fun getting old....
