Introduction: Terror Bird Mask
A mask based off of a terror bird. Made in 2009. I lived in Toronto and had a membership to the Royal Ontario Museum. My favorite section to visit was the dinosaur exhibit. After some initial photos and internet research I came up with this design. The wings are roughly to scale of what they would have been on this prehistoric creature. To make it a bit more surrealistic I kept the head as a skeleton and had a human heart protruding from the top.
Materials:
- Skull, wings, tongue and heart carved out of Ethafoam
- Covered with Polar Fleece using 3M spray glue and airbrushed
- Hallowed eyes heat molded from sheet styrene
Enjoy.

Haha,
I worked at a mascot production facility for a couple years. That's how I learned.
The closest thing I have to a lesson are these two instructables:
https://www.instructables.com/id/Jean-Paul-of-the-Dead-The-Making-of-a-Zombie-Cat-/
- this having the stills and video of the process
https://www.instructables.com/id/The-Making-of-a-Zombie-Cat-Mask/
this has the same video, but I have a longish comment there that explains more
Enjoy!
Let me know if you have any other questions.
I am slowly working on a step by step of the cat one.

Incredible. You're just going to have to make a new mask now with full step-by-step because we are all dying to see one!
The black material for the skull - is that foam? Did you carve it into shape?

Thanks!
I have pictures for all the steps in the Zombie Cat mask, I just need to write them all out. I made this one back in 2009 and unfortunately these were the only in progress pics I took. I have started documenting my latest ones at every step, so there will be lots to share in the future.
The black material is Ethafoam. I prefer it in black too since it's easier to see the form when you're carving it.

Wow, this is great - I'd *love* to see more details of the actual Making process, though.
