Introduction: The Joy of Quilling
This is my tutorial of a simple mandala hosted in
a wood frame. It was a pleasure doing it!
Step 1: Materials for Quilled Elements
- Strips of paper white and shiny yellow of 3 mm thickness, 30 cm length;
- white paper, A4 format;
- quilling tool;
- glue and a glue applicator;
- tweezers and scissors.
Step 2: Coloring the Frame
I used a square wood frame (side: 11.5 cm) as base for the bonding of the
quilled elements.
I painted it first with acrylic white as base and after drying,
I used shiny colors put with an applicator.
The colors are “Viva Inka gold” products.
Step 3: Creating the Quilled Elements
I created three shapes: tight coils (using 15 cm of strip),
teardrops (full length of strips) and beads from triangular
pieces of white paper: 2 cm as base and 21 cm height.
Prior the twisting on a knitting needle, I filled them with random colors.
Finally, I covered them with varnish.
Step 4: Bonding the Paper Elements
I put in place all the quilled papers and bonded them.
The surface was not so wide, so it was easy to complete this step.
The idea was to create the geometry of a mandala, even it is a simple
one, with not so much elements.
Step 5: The Embellishment of the Composition
In the area of mandala I used between elements, colors
from contour liners (brass, red, blue, raspberry).
For the gold lines and corners I used relief paste, Cadence product.
Here ends my story called "The joy of quilling".
