Intro: The Best Hashbrowns

Here it is, it's simple, easy, takes a little time, but not to much (about 20 min, but it's easy enough, that you can be prepping your other food while it's cooking). Instructions for the best hashbrowns I've ever had.

Have fun, try not to create a potato shortage.

STEP 1: Ingredients

Ingredients:

potato

(seasonings)
salt
pepper
garlic powder
onion powder

Tools:

pan
spatula
microwave
knife
cutting board

STEP 2: Cutting

Too cube a potato, my method is to (first peel and rinse) then cut out any bad spots.

Cut the potato in half, and set one half to the side.

Take the potato half, cut it into slices about 1/4" or a little less.

take half of those slices, slice them the other way so they look like fries. Then chop the fries so that they become cubes. Repeat on the rest of the potatos.

(look at the photos, they'll help more than my rambling).

STEP 3: Microwave

Stick the cubes into the microwave (on a microwavable plate)  and microwave for several minutes. Once the potatoes begin to soften a little, they're ready to cook.

STEP 4: Cooking Part 1

Put the potatoes in the buttered pan, sprinkle on the desired amount of each seasoning, and pour in about 1/4 cup of water. The water helps unstick the potatoes (they get all sticky when microwaved), and it helps spread around the seasoning evenly. When the water has cooked away, move to cooking part 2.

STEP 5: Cooking Part 2

when the water has cooked away, pour on some oil and brown the hashbrowns. Make sure that you get them nice and crispy browned, they're better that way.

STEP 6: Serving

These go with any breakfast meal. Eggs and pancakes, french toast and sausage, whatever, it goes with anything. And don't even think about applying ketchup, that's just heresy.

Make some, let me know what think, and what you might change, if anyone lets me know of any different seasoning combinations that they liked, I'll start another step with those seasoning combinations (attributed to the commenter of course)

Next project... DIY percutaneous coronary intervention procedure.
I've been making hashbrowns and homefries for years, I think I've even posted a couple "ibles" on them, but, I have to say this is a great procedure! I've never been able to get a good crisp using a nonstick pan, however, your method seems to do so easily!
I'm not going to retire my castiron skillet anytime soon, but I will definately give this a try ! and your correct... the french toast and hasbrowns ARE making me hungry !
