Knife
Washer
Plastic wire
Plastic bottle
Ingredients for the blend:
1 cup of warm water

Step 2: Prepare the Plastic Bottle and the Washer

2) makes 3 holes in equal spacing for the plastic wire.
Prepare the washer with the plastic wires
1)cut 3 pics of the plastic wire at the same length about 65cm(2.1ft).
2)tie the wires to the washer, it is going to be the trap base to tie it in equal spacing.
Step 3: Construct the Bottle With the Wires and Add the Blend
1) position the washer at the bottom of the bottle,
and pull the wire through plastic bottle holes from outside to inside of the bottle.
last verify that the washer sits in the center of the bottle bottom.
2) now it's time to prepare the blend that going to attract the flyes
fill the plastic bottle about one glass of warm water about 45Celsius or 113Fahrenheit.
add the 1 teaspoon of yeast and 5 tablespoon of white sugar, and mix it well.
Step 4: Glue the Bottle and Your Fly Trap Is Ready
Great! your trap is almost ready, we just need to glue it.
1)take the bottle small part and turning over into the bottle base.

Do I need to let the mixture ferment for a week as I have read on other sites or is that unnecessary?

If you use some tape to put both parts together instead to glue it will be easier to clean it for the next time.

tape will not hold strong for long time, but you can.

Maybe you could put a hat or roof over it, to avoid the rain fill it with water.

I was using a shot glass of tequila with a paper cone on top for awhile, it seemed to work pretty well. I bet this works a good deal better and doesn't end up being a waste of fine liquor...!

bait mixture works for about 3-4 weeks it depend on few factors - weather, yeast and sugar type, and water level.
the fly attracted to yeast smell and carbon dioxide it releases
as long as the yeast are living it will keep attract the flies mite be also longer then 4 weeks.

How long does it take for the bait mixture go bad and does it effect the efficiency? Does it smell when it goes bad?

In my hot shop in the summer they never really smell but go bad in about 2 weeks. I find fly's stop going in them before that time.
