Intro: The Simple Way of Polishing Boots

There is a lot of instructables on how to polish your combat boots and there all so complicated. This instructable will show you the old fashion way of polishing.

STEP 1: Things Needed

You will need
kiwi black shoe polish
2 cotton rags
a rug so you don't get polish on your floor
a nylon
a hour

STEP 2: Preping

Put 1 finger in the rag and wrap it around your finger like shown. then you rub your finger in the polish and get a good amount on the rag.

STEP 3: Polishing

now you rub your finger in circles on the boots.make sure you don't make your circles to big and there should be like a dark chocolatly excuse my spelling layer on the boot. Wait about 3 minutes before the next step so the polish can dry.

STEP 4: Buffing

Now you take your 2nd rag and wrap it around your fingers like you were polishing. then you do small circles like the last step and take the excess polish. Now you repeat this till you got your boot as shiny as you want it. almost forgot every 3rd polish take the nylon and buff it.It takes off the extra polish and gives it a nice shine. Please rate this instructable and if i could do something better let me know.

STEP 5: Done

Now you are done polishing your boots that should look somthing like this but I'm not done yet

The nylon in the panty hose works better than most cloth for giving a final shine.

I got a better shine on my Navy boondockers with black kiwi shoe polish, a cotton t-shirt, and water. I'm not sure what you do with the pantyhose from this instructable. Then again I had the shiniest shoes in the company. I always got outstandings on inspections both in the military and in jrotc.

I can vouch for the tee shirt and water method. Always worked for me.

We always used a heat gun on our Army combat boots for at least the first couple of shines. Hit them with the heat gun before using the water (ice cold worked the best). The heat gun was also useful for making smores in the barracks.
Lol ill remember the smores for when i get deployed. yeah the heat does work. my old commander used to light his boots on fire to melt the polish in.
There was some extra polish on the boot and my commander said use pantyhose to get it off and shine it up
I had the shiniest shoes in jrotc too but the pantyhose are used to buff the boots.

Thanks, but "There is a lot of instructables on how to polish your combat boots and there all so complicated. This instructable will show you the old fashion way of polishing"

1. Instructable is not a word.

2. "a lot of ______ on" is the subject. It is plural, so the sentence should begin There are a lot of, not There is a lot of.

3. There. Their. They're. You are saying "They are all so complicated" so the contraction of "they are" is what you are looking for, or "they're."

Thanks.

I can understand polishing dress shoes but doesn't shining your combat boots break one of the rules of cam and concealment?

Polishing boots on the field breaks one of the rules but if you are on parade then you should polish your boots. when on the field you still polish your boots but you do not buff as that is what gives them the shine.

It probably does but we where not in the military it was only the young Marines. we had a pretty low budget so we did not have dress uniforms so we just polished our boots.
well in that case i have to say they look very nice.
Thank you. I had the 3rd best looking boots in the platoon lol.
Good luck! glad the instructable is helpful
I used the "spit shine method" taught by a wise old Sargent in the US Army! He had the best shine on his boots. You could see your face in his boot toes. Thanks for bringing back those good memories. The Sargent was a man you could trust and count on.
How do you do the spit shine method? Also thanks for your service to our contry.
We used pantyhose for polishing when I was in the Norwegian army.

We bought pantyhose at the PX -they could sell them pretty cheap since they could buy them in bulk without any packaging.
You polish your combats to a shine? I only do that to my parade boots! My combats i polish to a dull glow! lol
im in jroct so they make all of your boots have a shine or i will be doing pushups till my arms fall off lol i like the new acu boots alot better
