Throwing Knife SPOON

Intro: Throwing Knife SPOON

How'd I come up with this is amazing idea? Well I really don't know I found a spoon in my backyard and had the strangest urge to make a throwing knife out of it. So I'll show ya what I did.

STEP 1: Materials

1 Spoon (After some trial and error I learned that the cheap dollar store spoons don't work not enough weight)
Bench Grinder/Angle Grinder
Hammer
(If you use an angle grinder you might need a bench press or some other clamping device to hold the spoon)
20-30 minutes of your time

STEP 2: Flatten the Spoon

The title is quite self explanatory, but I'll explain anyways. Take your spoon and place it on a hard surface like concrete or an anvil or what evers handy and hit Intel it's nice and flat. Make sure it's as straight as possible.

STEP 3: Make the Tip

Now that you have a flat straight spoon you can begin the hardest part. If you want you can take a marker or something and draw your point onto the spoon part (be creative as long as your point is straight out it should work just fine) but I'll just free hand it. And try to keep the point as centered as possible.

STEP 4: Finished

Now that your done grinding it should look like this.PLEASE BE CAREFUL. IT CAN HURT SOMEONE SEVERELY.

STEP 5: Target

You can take some cardboard and stand it up like I did and use that or use what you wish as a descent target, Just alone as it's not living inless your in need of food and your good with a spoon :D.

STEP 6: Conclusion

If you leave a comment please let it only be constructive criticism and don't forget to vote for me!!!! Please....Enjoy my first Instructable :D

Thank you Everyone for the great input and I'd love to see what y'all have done with the idea!
It doesn't matter which size spoon you use, I used a lighter one and managed to get it to stick in a board normally used for tomahawks, if you want to see the pic, here is my instructable: https://m.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-the-throwing-spoon/
Nice!

nice work with this one! Personally, as part of the stuffbusters crew, we do this kind of thing all the time, and for some reason, we've never come up with weaponized silverware. I'm definitely going to try this with all of those pesky, giant spoons that I have in the kitchen and never use.

Great idea and very different from anything 'throw able'

Plan to give it a go before this weekend when we go camping. Then we can try them out and see how they work. Nice one.

Very good idea! I have been tinkering with throwing knives for a while now. I honestly have never seen a spoon used before and it is an awesome idea. and if you get the right spoon and get it balance this would be a perfect throwing knife for beginners! The only thing I would say that would make this even better would be if you hardened and tempered the spoon. then you could easily get away with throwing these into wood targets!

great job cant wait to see what you have in store next!

Just a tip. By getting a spoon that widens out at the back helps with a counter balance. Also drilling three holes through the handle will help make the blade edge mildly heavier for a slightly more accurate throw. I made one a few years back and this works very well! Thanks for the instructable!!
I hadnt worked that far into it lol but ill have to give it a go. thanks.
Please be aware people, for I have a SPOON!
been a while...yea like vbianco has said you could use a knife sharpener or a wet rock and I find the thicker the spoon the better they can be thrown and aimed but that's my preference (I'm no pro lol) do what works for you
Angle grinder will work if your good with it also
Get a cheap spoon like from a dollar store and they can be cut with tin snips filed more precise and sharpened with a cheap sharpening stone or knife sharpener without the bench grinder
I like a lot, can't wait to try myself. Don't have a bench grinder though. Think it would be too dangerous to try with an angle grinder?
Cause I'm like really into throwing knives, I practice them when I go to my friends house but I don't have any and I really want some :(
Is there anything else that u can cut it with cause I don't have any tools like that so I need another option to make the point
if you want to cover it I guess you can but I don't know
thank you...I feel proud that my first instructable is doing so well
This is the coolest instruct able I've seen in a while
Can i cover the handle with electronic tape/black tape?
