Introduction: Tie Dye T-Shirt
Time to use old shirts and make them new. Have white, black, or greys shirts that aren’t worn anymore? Don’t throw them away, make them a new shirt that will be worn. Making tie dye shirts are easy. Follow the steps below to make an old shirt new.
Step 1: Collect Some T-Shirts
Grab some shirts that don’t have stains or holes. Don’t want any shirts to have holes or stains on them because the dye doesn’t absorb well with the stains.
Step 2: Get the Supplies
The supplies needed will be dye, rubber bands, water, want some gloves and squeeze bottles for the dye. Don’t forget to grab the shirts that are going to be dyed.
Step 3: Fold and Rubber Band the Shirt
Make sure the shirt being dyed is damp. The shirt needs to be laid down on a flat surface. Start in the middle of the shirt, in line with the arm pits. Then pinch the shirt and twist to make it look like a spiral. Use the palm of the hand if needed and keep twisting the shirt. Make sure the shirt is tight together. Once the shirt is folded and tight, take the rubber bands and slide them over the shirt that is on the table. The more rubber bands used, the more designs will be on the shirt.
Step 4: Chose Colors
Use any color for the shirts. Doesn’t matter how many colors are used. Basic colors that are used are red, blue, pink, green, purple, and orange. After the colors are picked, put them in the squeeze bottles.
Step 5: Time to Dye
Pick a color, in the section of the rubber bands put a band of dye in that section selected. Then repeat until one side of the shirt is all colored. Flip the shirt over and do the same thing on the other side.
Step 6: Let Sit
Let the shirt sit for about 24 hours. Leave the rubber bands on the shirt while it sits.
Step 7: Rinse and Remove Rubber Bands
Take the rubber bands off as they were put on. Can use scissors, if used, try not to cut the shirt. Once the rubber bands are off, rinse of the extra dye on the shirt.
Step 8: Wash and Ware
Put the shirt through the washer and dyer. Once it is completely done wear the shirt.
