Introduction: Tree Shadow Light:Night Forest in Your Bedroom

Turn your bedroom into a moon lit night forest at the flick of a switch.

Step 1: What You Will Need

# Nicely shaped branches

Ask your horticulturalist friend a favor to spare some branches otherwise going to be discarded.

JANSJÖ LED work lamp from IKEA: The lens on this light casts focused spot light and sharp shadows. Flexible head makes it very easy to adjust the direction. As of January 2016 it costs only $10.

Cordage

Screw eyes

Power drill + drill bits.

Saw

Pruner

Knife

File

Optional:

Yellow and orange sharpie.

Soda bottle

Aluminum tape (or duct tape)

Step 2: Prepare the Branches

Remove the leaves. You may want to remove barks that may later flake off and make mess in your room. Trim away some of the brunches until you find a nice shape. Curve/file away sharp points that may poke you and your family or damage your clothing.

Decide where you want to hang the brunches.

Screw holes in the beams. Install the eyes crews.

Hang the branch from the eyes crews using cordage.

Step 3: Lighting

Make the color filter

The colors of the JANSJÖ LED is a bit on the cool side so I put a yellow filter on the lens. To make the filter cut soda bottle plastic, colored it with yellow and orange sharpie. Tape the filter onto the lens of the light.

Position the light

Place the light on the wall above the branch and adjust the neck of the light to cast the light on the wall. Play with the position and the direction of the light until you are happy wit the result.

Now you have a forest in your room!

Hang a hammock and have a good night :)
