Triangle Desk Lamp

I was thinking a normal desk lamp are sometimes so boring. And almost every desk lamp is the same. So I came with the idea to make a special desk lamp. All elements of the lamp consists of triangles.

What I also like is that the desk lamp is adjustable. So when you want the light really close to your desk you can do that, or when you want it cut above your desk you turn it up.

Step 1: What Do You Need?

• wood planks
• screw dread 3mm
• nuts 3mm
• bolts 3mm
• fitting
• lamp
• wood glue
• glue
• abs filament 1.75mm

• 3D-printer
• laser cutter
• drill

• hacksaw

Step 2:

Let's begin!

You start with make 8 triangles. Those triangles can you make in Adobe Illustrator. Each side of the triangle is 60mm. The triangle in the triangle is 25mm.

When you made them, you can make them out of wood. So you go to the laser cutter and cut 8 triangles.

For the holes in the triangles for the screw dread you make them with a 3 mm drill.

Step 3:

So when you have 8 triangles you can make to each other.

You can do that with screw dread and nuts.

You put 2 triangles next to each other and you put there a screw dread in. On each side you put a nut. You don't put them too tight, they should still be able to turn.

Step 4:

When you have the base, you are going to make the ground of the desklamp.

You make also this in Adobe Illustrator. The mates of the ground are 150mm by 165mm by 165mm. In the middle of the ground you make a hole. Those mates are 60mm by 3,5mm.

When you have this in Illustrator, you can put it in the laser cutter.

Step 5:

Now you can make the base and the ground together.

You made in the base a hole, so you can put one side of the triangle (of the base) in the hole. It is as yet not strong enough. So you put a little bit of wood glue in the hole. You let it dry for a hour and than it is really strong.

Step 6:

When you have the ground and the base, you can begin with the lamp shade.

In the programme SolidWorks you can make a shade.

Step 7:

For the lampshade you can cut with the lasercutter plates. And for where you put the fitting in you make also a triangle. But in this triangle you make a hole for your fitting.

Step 8:

So your lampshade is almost finished.

Now you can glue 1 triangle from the base on the shade. Let it dry for a couple hours.

Step 9:

So when you have everything you can put it al together. And thread the thread of the fitting between the triangles of the base.

When you have done that, your desk lamp is finished!!
