Introduction: Tribal Clay Mask

This is a beginner friendly guide to making a tribal face mask using Air-Drying Clay and simple tools available at home.

Supplies

1. Air-Drying Clay(500g)

2.Clay modelling tools (basic household tools like screw drivers, spoons or ice cream sticks cut)

3.Base mould using crumpled paper or any vessel inverted.

4.Acrylic Paint and brushes

Step 1: Making the Base

Take required amount of clay and make mix it to a consistent texture. Roll the clay into a base as shown. Add small quantities of water if the clay is hard and difficult to shape. Make sure the base is not too thin so that it does not crack while drying.

Step 2: Adding Facial Features

Nose: Take a bit of clay and add some water so that it can easily be shaped. Roll into a cylinder like shape and then procced to make a nose by modelling using your hands.

Eyes: Carve out the eyes ( I used a screw driver to take out the clay ).

Eyebrows and Lips: Roll clay into a small cylinder and stick it above the eyes and around the mouth.

The boundary is your creativity. Go ahead and add designs as you like.. just keep in mind not to overdo it.

Step 3: Let Your Mask Dry

Let your mask dry for around 24 hours before proceeding to the next step.

Step 4: Paint Your Mask

Use acrylic/poster colours to paint your mask. Make sure to paint the mask such that the facial features are visible and have clear distinction.

Step 5: Its Done!!!

Its time to let the world know about your mask!! So go ahead and show it off as much as you can.
